Intern Student Support Assistant
Up to 40 hours per week
Term Time Only | Fixed-Term Contract (September 2026 – July 2027)
Start your career while making a real difference.
Studying or recently completed a Health & Social Care, Childcare, Psychology, Nursing, Education or similar course? Ready to put your learning into practice in a supportive, hands-on environment?
At Treloar's, you'll receive comprehensive paid training and develop valuable practical skills whilst working alongside Health Care and Residential Care professionals. From day one, you'll be supported to grow your confidence and build your knowledge, gaining experience that prepares you for a rewarding career in the health or social care sectors.
This internship is designed to help you learn and develop. Many of our colleagues have gone on to build long-term careers with Treloar's, progressing into permanent support roles and specialist positions.
Whether you're finishing college, taking a gap year or looking for the next step into a meaningful profession, this is an opportunity to learn, grow and discover where your career could take you.
Your Working Pattern
You'll work a two-week rolling rota (a typical rota could look like this):
Week 1
- Monday – Thursday: 7:00am – 2:00pm
- Saturday: 7:00am – 2:00pm
- Sunday: 3:30pm – 10:30pm
Week 2
- Tuesday – Friday: 3:30pm – 10:30pm
This pattern gives you regular weekdays off and a great work-life balance across the rota.
What you'll be doing
As an Intern Student Support Assistant, you'll be helping our students achieve their goals within one of our onsite Residential Houses.
As part of the wrap around support we provide to deliver outstanding education for children and young adults with physical needs you’ll;
- Encourage students to develop their independence and confidence
- Assist with specialist equipment
- Work closely with a range of professionals as part of a friendly multidisciplinary team
- Support with personal care, including washing, dressing, bathing, toileting and personal hygiene
- Assist with mealtimes, preparing snacks and supporting nutritional needs
- Help keep accurate records and contribute to individual support plans
- Create a safe, positive and inclusive environment where every student can thrive
No previous care experience is required—we'll give you all the training you need.
Who we're looking for:
We're looking for enthusiastic, caring people who are ready to learn.
You'll ideally have:
- GCSE English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent)
- A genuine interest in health, social care, education or supporting young people
- Great communication and teamwork skills
- A positive, can-do attitude
- A willingness to learn and get involved
- Compassion, patience and reliability
This role is especially suited to students or recent graduates from Health & Social Care or related courses who want practical experience before progressing into careers such as nursing, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, teaching, psychology or social work.
What you'll get in return
Alongside a rewarding role, you'll receive:
- Comprehensive paid induction and ongoing training
- Hands-on experience working alongside experienced professionals across education, therapy and care
- Continuous learning and development opportunities throughout your internship
- The opportunity to explore a variety of career pathways within Treloar's
- Potential for long-term employment and career progression within the Trust
- Pension scheme
- Health cash plan
- Life insurance and Critical Illness Cover
- Discounted gym membership
- Health and wellbeing activities including gym, yoga and Zumba
- On-site accommodation may be available (subject to availability and T&Cs)
- Refer-a-friend scheme of up to £500 (T&Cs apply)
Why choose Treloar's?
This isn't just another job—it's an opportunity to build confidence, develop professional skills, make lifelong friendships and gain experience that employers and universities really value.
If you're compassionate, motivated and ready for a challenge, we'd love to hear from you.
