Full job description

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated health care assistant to join our nursing team. You will be working closely with our specialist nurses for breast and gynaecology, our lead radiographer and our group of breast, gynaecology and plastic surgeons as well as radiologists and administrative team members. OneWelbeck Women's Health provides outpatient consultation, outpatient procedures, screening services and imaging for breast and gynaecology. We have a number of procedures that we provide and are increasing the services we offer to patients. You will be supported by the clinical team with training on how to assist with the outpatient procedures and imaging that we provide.

Candidates will be required to work on flexible shift patterns as we set up our new services and expand existing ones. Currently we offer early morning, day time and evening appointments for patients and are looking to expand this and offer services on Saturdays.

Key Requirements of the role:

To be proficient and participate in outpatients clinics, diagnostic tests, and procedures, including:

  • Prepare and support patients before, during and after appointments and procedures maintaining patient dignity at all times
  • Record patients’ observations prior to a test / procedure
  • Insert IV cannulas for any patients who require upon completion of appropriate training
  • Ensure the safe handling of patient specimens
  • To be able to work both in a team and independently
  • To make decisions and trouble shoot
  • Help to maintain high standards of cleanliness of equipment and accessories in the centre
  • To assist in the maintenance of daily stock levels, departmental administration and responding to patient queries
  • Participate in routine daily quality assurance and calibration on equipment
  • To report equipment and environmental problems according to departmental protocols, and to initiate Facilities, Domestic Services etc as required
  • To participate in audits and quality initiatives as appropriate and assist in collecting departmental statistics
  • Complete all necessary documentation and records for all patients undergoing any investigation or procedures at the centre
  • To develop professional and IT skills as demanded by the needs of the department, including using the centre patient records databases and reporting systems
  • To take responsibility for self-development on a continual basis, undertaking on-the-job and other training as required, and to participate in the departmental appraisal system
  • Assist in the promotion and development of new ideas and encourage other staff to do likewise
  • To attend and actively participate in departmental meetings in conjunction with senior colleagues to contribute a proactive approach to issues relating to quality of care, technical standards and efficiency improvements, as applied to own area of work and that of colleagues
  • To assist consultant staff as and when required
  • Liaise with other centres and medical staff where appropriate
  • To be actively involved in any future on-call rota (not currently part of the service), providing an out of hours service as necessary

Women’s Health Centre is currently open Monday - Friday, 08:00 – 20:00 with the possibility to open on a Saturday
