Full job description

Full-time, Permanent | Salary Dependent on Experience
Nexa Law Limited is a dynamic, modern, and progressive SRA-regulated new-model law firm dedicated to delivering innovative legal solutions tailored to the needs of our consultant lawyers and their clients.

As part of our continued growth, we are seeking a proactive and commercially minded Legal Executive to join our Compliance Team. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with legal experience who is looking to develop their career within a dynamic and forward-thinking legal practice.

The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting the firm's regulatory obligations, assisting with client and matter risk assessments, compliance monitoring, onboarding processes and wider compliance initiatives across the business.

Key Responsibilities

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Provide practical legal, regulatory and risk-management support to the wider Compliance Team and colleagues across the firm.
  • Review client and matter risk assessments across a multidisciplinary legal practice, identifying areas requiring further information, risk mitigation or escalation.
  • Support the firm's compliance with Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter-Terrorist Financing (CTF), sanctions and proliferation-financing requirements.
  • Assist in identifying, assessing and mitigating regulatory and compliance risks across the business.
  • Support the recording, investigation and escalation of potential breaches, complaints, conflicts, data incidents and other compliance concerns.

Client Onboarding & Due Diligence

  • Review Know Your Client (KYC) and client onboarding checks.
  • Undertake beneficial ownership, source of funds and, where appropriate, source of wealth enquiries in accordance with legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with the SRA Standards and Regulations, Money Laundering Regulations and internal compliance policies.
  • Work closely with consultants and support teams to resolve onboarding queries and obtain outstanding due diligence information.

Compliance Monitoring & Auditing

  • Undertake compliance monitoring activities, file reviews and thematic audits.
  • Identify trends, control weaknesses and areas for improvement.
  • Assist with the preparation of compliance reports and management information.
  • Support the implementation of corrective actions arising from audits, reviews or regulatory findings.

Regulatory & Operational Support

  • Assist with lender panel applications, renewals, audits and related communications.
  • Support annual regulatory registrations, memberships, renewals and audit requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of compliance activities and regulatory documentation.
  • Assist with responses to information requests from lenders, regulators and external auditors.

Training & Awareness

  • Assist with the preparation and delivery of compliance training sessions.
  • Draft guidance notes, compliance updates and firmwide communications.
  • Promote awareness of regulatory obligations and best practice throughout the firm.

Essential Criteria

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • At least two years' relevant experience within a reputable law firm or other regulated legal environment.
  • Working knowledge of KYC, beneficial ownership, source of funds and source of wealth reviews.
  • A good understanding of AML, sanctions, data protection and confidentiality requirements.
  • A sound understanding of the SRA Standards and Regulations and wider compliance obligations applicable to law firms.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise sound judgement and challenge constructively where appropriate.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex compliance requirements clearly and pragmatically.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • The ability to work independently, use initiative and contribute effectively within a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and legal case management systems.
  • A high level of integrity, professionalism and discretion when handling confidential and sensitive information.
  • The ability to attend Nexa Law's Head Office in Oswestry as required.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of compliance monitoring, file audits, regulatory reporting, complaints handling or policy development.
  • Experience working within an Alternative Business Structure (ABS) or multidisciplinary legal practice.
  • Familiarity with lender panel requirements and external compliance audits.
  • Experience using electronic onboarding, identity verification, sanctions screening or compliance monitoring systems.
  • Relevant compliance, legal or risk-management qualifications.

Why work for Nexa?

  • Hybrid working arrangements.

  • New, modern office building with plenty of staff facilities, free parking and close to local amenities.
