About On-Site Energy
At On-Site Energy, we work with energy-intensive manufacturers to reduce energy costs and carbon emissions through on-site generation, energy efficiency and infrastructure upgrades. We design, build, own and operate energy assets within live industrial environments, partnering closely with our clients to deliver commercially viable, long-term solutions.
We are technology agnostic and data-led - assessing each site individually and integrating technologies such as CHP, solar PV, heat pumps and wider efficiency upgrades to deliver the strongest commercial outcome.
Our clients operate in high-demand, complex environments, where energy cost and resilience are critical. OSE’s internally developed asset management platform plays a key role - providing real-time visibility of asset performance, enabling remote diagnostics and control, and supporting site-wide energy optimisation.
The Role
We’re strengthening delivery at the intersection of controls, automation, and digital integration – working as part of a collaborative technical team, these roles bridge site-level automation and cloud-based platform integration; these roles sit across software, controls, and engineering, collaborating to connect, control, and optimise the performance of our on-site energy assets.
This roles sit across site-level automation and cloud-based platform integration, combining HMI design, PLC programming, and interfacing to Edge Compute, helping to strengthen the systems that connect our sites to the wider platform. You’ll be working to agreed priorities in an Agile/Scrum environment, providing clear progress updates via Azure DevOps and Teams.
We’re looking for an engineer with strong experience in one or more of the following areas, with the ability to collaborate across disciplines.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality HMI design, PLC programming, and Edge Compute integration to accelerate site commissioning and meet live project deadlines
- Configure and test control systems to ensure reliable performance and seamless integration with OSE’s asset management platform
- Collaborate with the EC&I team, Energy Platform & Digital team, and site engineers to resolve issues quickly and keep projects on track
- Contribute to knowledge transfer, ensuring permanent team members are equipped to maintain and evolve solutions post-handover
- Support commissioning activities for new sites, collaborating closely with software developers, EC&I engineers, and project teams
- Integrate control systems with OSE’s asset management platform to enable advanced diagnostics, optimisation, and remote operation
- Identify and deliver improvements in automation, connectivity, and system performance, drawing on industry best practice
- This role will require some on-site work at client sites, particularly for commissioning activities
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Strong background in industrial control and automation systems, including HMI design and Siemens S7 PLC programming (RIA Step 7 SCL Structured Control Language)
- Experience with Linux Edge Compute programming (FR201/Debian, UNIX commands, Docker, log shipping, installation and upgrading Docker containers, connection using Qbee and/or Azure IoT Hub)
- Strong knowledge of Docker, Python, C#
- Familiarity with TCP/IP, MQTT, OPC-UA, IoT Edge, Azure IoT Hub, Docker
- Engineering and/or electrical background (degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent experience)
- Comfortable using Microsoft Teams and working collaboratively in a remote/hybrid setup
- Experience with Azure DevOps and working within an Agile/Scrum framework
- Able to work in a dynamic environment, responding quickly to delivery priorities
- Self-motivated, organised, and able to work with minimal supervision
- Strong communication skills, able to collaborate across technical and operational teams
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to UK sites
Desirable
- Experience integrating edge devices with cloud-based asset management or SCADA systems
- Exposure to energy systems, industrial automation, or manufacturing environments
- Knowledge of industrial networking, cybersecurity considerations, and safety standards
- Experience commissioning control systems on live sites
- Additional programming or integration skills relevant to IoT, analytics, or automation projects
We’re committed to building a diverse and inclusive team and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds. If you need any reasonable adjustments during the recruitment process, please let us know.
