Job Overview

START DATE: Saturday 4th July 2026

FINISH DATE: Saturday 1st August 2026

- Involvement in (leading/supporting/preparing for) a range of sports and other activities during afternoons, evenings and some full days. Activities may be on site or off-campus and may include accompanying students on full-day excursions.

- Supervising students appropriately during all activities according to their age, exercising judgement and common sense. Being particularly vigilant of student safety and behaviour during excursions.

- For all activity sessions, maintaining ‘good order’ and a safe environment with positive language opportunities. ‘Good order’ to mean:

  • Punctuality of staff and students (arriving and leaving sessions at correct times).
  • Encouraging lively student participation in a well-structured environment.
  • Safe session environment with attention paid to potential safety hazards.
  • Participating fully in activities with students whenever appropriate.
  • Maintaining an appropriately professional appearance at all times.

- Keeping student registers for sessions as required

- Complete Activity Report Forms correctly and thoroughly after all activities.

- Assisting with writing Activity Reports, if required.

- Always collecting receipts.

Assisting with airport/train station transfers, if required.

Welfare responsibilities:

- Be aware of, and follow, “Every Child Matters” Legislation 2004, ‘safety and well being of students the highest priority’ at all times, specific details given at Induction.

- At all times, when not on time off, ‘be there’ for students, showing care appropriate to the circumstance and child. Be mindful of their safety, homesickness, loneliness, any communication problems, positive peer group interaction and general good behaviour. Ensure they follow the course and centre rules.

- Follow duties as assigned each week such as assisting with getting up and bed times, supervising meals, free time, etc.

- Sleeping in a boarding house where students are present in nearby rooms and properly supervising a student’s living and sleeping area, showing a sensitive and decisive response to any student problems, whatever their nature and ensuring that students follow bed times and getting up times and keep clean, tidy bedrooms and common rooms.

- Check daily and report any damage and/or safety problems.

- Must be aware of all published emergency procedures in case of fire, accident etc.

- In accordance with fire regulations, ‘sign out’ and ‘sign in’ when leaving and returning to campus stating reason for absence.

- No smoking in front of students at any time or on campus.

- Consumption of alcohol and/or drugs not permitted on campus at any time or during working hours.

It is possible you could be disturbed, on occasions, during the night to assist with the welfare of students or to assist “on call” staff.

Teamwork:

- Attending daily staff meetings, as required.

- Professional responsibility to act according to what is agreed by team and/or instructed by Course Director, Social Organiser, Head of Boarding House, Head of Boarding and Welfare and Directors of Summer School.

- The needs of the students must always be met whatever the situation.

- You must report any sickness which stops you from carrying out your duties to the Social Organiser or Course Director immediately.

- We rely on you as a vital member of the team. If you are scheduled to do something you must do it and do it well. We all depend on each other for the success of the course.
