About Us

Peter Trevor Fine Jewellers is an established, independent jeweller in the heart of Seaford, offering new, vintage and pre-owned fine jewellery, watches, repairs and bespoke jewellery services.

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and dependable individual to join our small, friendly team in a senior, hands-on role.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with people, appreciates fine jewellery and is confident taking responsibility for the day-to-day running of a busy retail business.

The Role

This is a varied position combining customer service and practical jewellery duties with supervisory and shop management responsibilities.

Shop Management & Responsibilities

  • Acting as a trusted key holder, including opening and closing the premises.
  • Preparing the shop for opening at 9.00am, including setting up and displaying stock, and ensuring the shop is clean and ready for customers.
  • Overseeing daily shop operations when required, including taking responsibility in the owners' absence.
  • Assisting with staff rotas, working schedules and holiday cover.
  • Managing stock control, deliveries, stock records and stocktaking.
  • Ensuring the safe handling, storage and security of valuable stock.
  • Maintaining high standards of shop presentation, merchandising and window displays.
  • Supporting other team members, identifying priorities and proactively ensuring tasks are completed.

Customer Service & Practical Duties

  • Providing friendly, knowledgeable advice to customers purchasing jewellery and watches.
  • Taking in jewellery repairs, alterations and other specialist services.
  • Replacing watch batteries, fitting straps and undertaking minor jewellery repairs where appropriate.
  • Purchasing gold and silver from customers, including precious metal testing.
  • Cleaning and polishing jewellery, maintaining displays and undertaking general shop cleaning and housekeeping duties.
  • Processing sales, handling cash and card transactions, and completing end-of-day cashing up.
  • Receiving, checking and recording new jewellery and watch stock.

This is a hands-on role where everyone contributes to the smooth running of the business. We are looking for someone who is equally happy taking responsibility and carrying out everyday practical tasks.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has previous jewellery retail experience, although candidates with substantial retail experience will also be considered.
  • Is honest, trustworthy, reliable and understands the importance of security when handling valuable merchandise.
  • Is smart, well-presented and professional in appearance and manner.
  • Is proactive, self-motivated and able to use their own initiative.
  • Is organised, confident and comfortable taking responsibility and making decisions.
  • Has excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Works well within a small team and is willing to undertake a variety of tasks.
  • Has good attention to detail and takes pride in maintaining high standards.

Previous supervisory experience, jewellery repairs, watch batteries or precious metal testing would be advantageous, although training can be provided where appropriate.

Above all, we value integrity, a positive attitude and a willingness to take responsibility.

Working Hours

This is a full-time, permanent position.

  • Hours: 8.30am – 5.15pm, five days per week.
  • Saturdays: Three Saturdays per month.
  • Lunch: 30-minute break each day - PAID.
  • Some flexibility is required to accommodate business needs.

What We Offer

  • A friendly, supportive working environment.
  • Opportunities to develop jewellery knowledge and management skills.
  • Competitive salary dependent on experience.
  • Workplace pension and staff discount.
