Overview - The successful candidate will be based in our Barnsley Depot for a minimum of 3 days per week with regular travel to UK wide response/project works in the field.

Ambipar Response’s services are designed to protect Critical National Infrastructure, minimise downtime of critical business activities and safely manage hazardous waste. We respond to environmental emergencies occurring on highways, railways, airports, ports, industries, mining companies and pipelines. Our experienced incident response teams are mobilised 24/7 to provide urgent relief to business-critical issues ranging from shipping incidents, oil/chemical spillages, fly tipping and hazardous waste removal to natural disasters.

Are you passionate about protecting the environment and ready to make a real impact? Ambipar is looking for a motivated Environmental Consultant to join our expanding UK Environmental Consultancy team. This is a varied and dynamic role involving pollution response, site investigation, risk assessment, remediation, and client engagement across a wide range of sectors.

This position combines office-based work with regular fieldwork and offers the chance to support major incident response for significant Tier 2 and Tier 3 marine pollution events. You’ll work within a multidisciplinary team and play a key role in delivering high‑quality environmental solutions for clients across the UK.

Responsibilities

  • Responding to emergency pollution incidents (fuel, oil, chemicals, spills) across the UK.
  • Conducting onsite preliminary risk assessments and developing conceptual site models.
  • Designing and managing Phase I & Phase II site investigations.
  • Carrying out soil and groundwater sampling, monitoring, and data interpretation.
  • Preparing environmental and controlled waters risk assessments.
  • Overseeing containment, clean‑up, and remediation operations.
  • Producing high‑quality technical reports for clients and regulators.
  • Liaising with the Environment Agency, SEPA, NRW, and other key stakeholders.
  • Managing multiple projects to ensure timely, compliant delivery within budget.
  • Supporting internal training delivery and mentoring junior team members.
  • Providing technical input for commercial proposals and identifying new opportunities.

What we are looking for

Essential

  • Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geology, or related field.
  • 4–5 years of experience in environmental consultancy, remediation, or spill response.
  • Strong knowledge of UK environmental legislation and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience in site investigation, contaminated land assessment, and water quality monitoring.
  • Excellent communication and technical report‑writing skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Willingness to travel and work away from home when required.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Work Location: Hybrid remote in Barnsley (South Yorkshire, Yorkshire and Humber Region)
