We seek the best talent from the widest pool of people as diversity and inclusion is the key to our success. Reading Borough Council is a Disability Confident Employer and is committed to the recruitment and continued employment of people with disabilities.
About The Role:
As a Multi Skilled Kitchen Fitter, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality kitchen fitting and carpentry services to council-owned homes.
The role will be based at our Depot at 19 Bennet Road, Reading, RG2 0QX
The position is full-time Monday to Friday on site by 08:00am and leaving site at 16:00pm
You will work independently and as part of a team, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
You will be supplied a company vehicle for work use only, specialist tools, mobile phone/ PDA, and all other items that will allow you to perform to the highest standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Installing and refurbishing kitchens within residential properties.
- Carrying out a wide range of carpentry repairs and maintenance works.
- Undertaking associated multi-trade tasks such as plumbing, basic plaster patching, tiling and vinyl flooring.
- Identifying and ordering materials required for works via a PDA.
- Maintaining excellent customer service when working in occupied homes.
- Ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation and safe working practices.
- Experience of PDA usage as paperwork is limited.
- Providing out of hours support on a rota-based system. Additional remuneration will be incorporated for this.
About You:
You will be an experienced Kitchen Fitter or Multi Skilled Carpenter with a recognised qualification in Carpentry, such as an NVQ Level 2 or City & Guilds, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
You will have a proven track record of carrying out kitchen installations, repairs and maintenance work within domestic properties, together with a broad range of carpentry & plumbing skills. Experience of additional trades, including basic plastering, tiling and vinyl flooring, would be highly advantageous.
We are looking for someone who takes pride in delivering high-quality workmanship and excellent customer service. You will be comfortable working independently and as part of a team, managing your workload effectively and communicating professionally with residents, colleagues and contractors.
A flexible, proactive approach, a commitment to health and safety, and a full UK driving licence are essential for this role.
You’ll be part of a team that relies on each individual to play their part to the best of their ability. As well as the colleagues that you work closely with every day, you’ll also be part of Team Reading, playing your personal part in making Reading a successful and vibrant place.
Our vision is to ensure that Reading realises its potential as a great place to live, work and play, and that everyone shares the benefits of this success. Our values and behaviours guide how we will achieve this:
Work Together as one team - work collaboratively, with each other and with our partners, and demonstrate the Team Reading values in everything we do

Be Ambitious - be demanding of our own performance – striving to be even better – and be prepared to engage with and challenge leaders in a constructive and positive way.
Make a Difference to Reading - maintain the highest levels of customer service and be flexible and willing to provide the services needed at the time they are needed.
Our offer:
We offer a supportive environment to grow and develop your career with the opportunity to put your ideas across. Innovation and ambition are strongly encouraged, and you’ll get a great feel for that working in our friendly and collaborative environment.
A competitive salary alongside a range of benefits including:
