Early Years Kitchen assistant
Early Start Education Ltd – Shrewsbury Nursery

Location: Shrewsbury Nursery
Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8am-4pm

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Early Years Chef to join our nursery team at Shrewsbury Nursery. This role involves preparing fresh, nutritious meals on site for children at Shrewsbury Nursery, as well as for Susan Lawrence Nursery, a small setting located approximately 7 minutes away.

All food for Susan Lawrence Nursery will be prepared at Shrewsbury and transported via a taxi service to ensure safe and timely delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve breakfast and snacks.
  • Receive and serve pre-cooked lunches and teas.
  • Follow children’s dietary and allergen requirements.
  • Complete food-temperature and kitchen records.
  • Wash dishes and keep the kitchen clean and organised.
  • Check food dates and manage stock rotation.
  • Maintain high food-hygiene and safety standards.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience cooking in a domestic or commercial kitchen (essential).
  • Level 2 or Level 3 Food Safety qualification (essential).
  • Strong knowledge of allergens, dietary requirements, and nutrition for young children.
  • Good understanding of food hygiene, COSHH, and health and safety.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Experience cooking for young children is desirable.
