Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our elderly care home team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in providing high-quality meal services and ensuring the well-being of residents. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to a warm, caring environment while developing culinary skills within a supportive team.

Duties

  • Prepare and cook nutritious meals tailored to residents' dietary requirements, ensuring food safety standards are met
  • Knowledge of textured and modified diets is preferable
  • Assist with meal planning and presentation to enhance residents' dining experience
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area in accordance with health and safety regulations
  • Have good verbal and written skills
  • Support with food storage, inventory management, and ordering supplies as needed
  • Collaborate with care staff to accommodate special dietary needs or preferences of residents
  • Uphold hygiene standards during food preparation and service at all times
  • A kitchen assistant is present on shifts to support the cook with food preparation, they undertake the dish washing and help with maintaining the cleanliness of the facility.

Requirements

  • Minimum qualification NVQ Level 2 or 706/2 in Catering, Basic or Intermediate Food Hygiene certificate
  • Previous experience in food preparation, cooking, or kitchen roles is required
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices in culinary environments
  • Experience working in a restaurant or catering setting is advantageous
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
  • Excellent communication skills and a caring attitude towards elderly residents
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a busy environment
  • Flexibility to adapt to the needs of the care home and residents’ schedules
