Lab Assistant jobs

A position has arisen at European Turfgrass Laboratories Ltd, a busy soil testing laboratory servicing the sportsturf industry based in Alloa. The laboratory provides test data for many prestigious facilities throughout the world, including several Premiership football teams, FIFA tournaments, R&A British Open and European Tour golf venues. We are looking for a mature individual to fulfil this role and whilst no experience is required, practical, methodical, numerical and organisational skills would be of benefit. Good communication skills and excellent teamwork is essential to this small team. A keen interest in science and sports is advantageous too. All training is provided in-house.

The role would involve a fairly fixed daily routine consisting of:

Testing as per the laboratory’s list of services (includes particle size distribution, organic matter content, pH)

Keep accurate and legible records of scientific data and work undertaken - handling data with ease is essential

Prepare chemicals and solutions for use in the laboratory

Undertake internal calibrations of equipment, chemicals using correct methodology and record data

Preparation and arrange postage of sample kits for clients

There is no minimum qualification requirement. Personal skills should include a good level of communication, the ability to fit into a small team, be methodical, have the ability to work under pressure and be highly motivated.

Full training would be given in this role.

The position is for 35 hours p/week. Some weekend work is required on a rotational basis. Paid overtime out-with the agreed hours may be offered at busy times.
