Role Summary

The Laboratory Technician plays a key role in making sure used oils and related wastes are properly identified, compliant, safe to handle, and suitable for recycling, re‑refining, or disposal. The role ensures that testing is carried out to recognised standards, supports method development, and upholds the integrity, impartiality, and quality requirements of Malary management system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complying with the requirements of UKAS, ISO and the EA regarding the Processed Fuel Oil (PFO) protocol.
  • Comply to internal procedures for other products than PFO.
  • Comply with general fuel testing methods and equipment procedures.
  • Carrying out testing and evaluation of results to the required standard.
  • Performing collection and sample preparation, and analysis; Label, store, and track samples correctly, evaluating, interpreting, and reporting results accurately, completely, and within defined timeframes.
  • Tank management including volumes, waste segregation, blending etc.
  • Managing laboratory space, equipment, materials, and resources to ensure efficient and effective use.
  • Carry out stocktake of goods to be used in the laboratory activities or other activities considered technical.
  • Supporting Health and Safety compliance, including COSHH reviews, risk assessments, method statements, daily safety checks.
  • Maintaining good levels of housekeeping of all relevant areas.
  • Provided technical support to other areas as required.
  • Working collaboratively as part of a team to provide technical support for research and routine materials analysis using a wide range of laboratory equipment.
  • Documenting, compiling, and assisting with interpretation of experimental data; maintaining organised, accessible laboratory records and reporting systems.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications and training

  • GSCE's (essential)
  • A Levels (desirable)

Experience

  • Understanding of waste treatment processes, or industrial emissions monitoring (desirable)
