Salary: £25,000-£27,000 per annum.

Working Hours: Monday to Friday - 8.30am to 5.00pm (flexibility can be considered)

Beechwood Laboratories, founded in 1984 and based in Doagh, Ballyclare, is an independent laboratory providing both chemical and microbiological testing of raw materials, finished products and associated samples.

We are currently seeking a Media Preparation Laboratory Technician to join our growing team.

About The Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation, sterilisation and quality control of microbiological culture media, reagents and laboratory consumables used within our UKAS-accredited laboratory.

Key Responsibilities include;

  • Preparation, dispensing and sterilisation of microbiological media, agar and reagents.
  • Operation and routine monitoring of autoclaves and laboratory equipment.
  • Maintenance of media, reagent and equipment records in accordance with ISO 17025 requirements.
  • Stock control and organisation of laboratory consumables.
  • General laboratory housekeeping and cleaning duties.
  • Assisting with environmental monitoring and other laboratory support activities as required.
  • Supporting the wider laboratory team to ensure testing schedules are met.
  • Identifying opportunities for process improvements and maintaining high laboratory standards.

Required Criteria

  • GCSE’s in English Language, Science and Mathematics, at grade C or above, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Good attention to detail and ability to follow written procedures
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills
  • Basic computer skills and accurate record-keeping ability
  • Positive attitude and willingness to work as part of a team
  • Ability to work independently and manage routine tasks effectively


Desired Criteria

  • Previous laboratory experience is desirable but not essential as full training will be provided
