Full job description

Are you a life scientist interested in moving into marketing?

Hello Bio is looking for a Life Science Marketing Specialist to join our team and help us communicate with scientists around the world.

This could be an ideal opportunity if you have a strong scientific background but are looking to develop a career beyond the lab – particularly if you enjoy writing, communicating science, working with data and understanding what makes people engage.

You don't need to be an experienced marketer.

We're looking for someone who understands science and can communicate it well, has strong analytical skills, and is interested in developing practical expertise across digital marketing, scientific content and the commercial side of a growing life science company.

If you already have some marketing experience, that's great. But we're equally interested in hearing from scientists who can demonstrate relevant transferable skills and a genuine interest in developing a career in marketing.

About the role

You'll work closely with our Marketing Director and wider team to help deliver marketing activity to life scientists around the world.

It's a varied role combining digital marketing, scientific content, data and analytics, with opportunities to get involved in wider commercial activities.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and delivering targeted email marketing campaigns
  • Writing and editing scientific and technical marketing content
  • Translating complex science into clear, engaging communications
  • Developing content for products, applications, emails and our website
  • Building and segmenting scientific audiences for marketing campaigns
  • Supporting PPC, remarketing and digital lead-generation campaigns
  • Developing and optimising automated marketing workflows
  • Using A/B testing and campaign analytics to understand what works
  • Supporting SEO and website optimisation
  • Working with marketing data, reporting and analytics
  • Working with our IT team to improve marketing systems, tracking and data integration
  • Supporting wider marketing and commercial projects
  • Attending selected scientific conferences and tradeshows in the UK and internationally

As you develop your marketing skills and experience, there will be opportunities to take increasing ownership of different areas of our marketing activity.

About you

You'll have a BSc or higher in a relevant life science discipline, such as pharmacology, physiology, neuroscience, biochemistry, biomedical sciences or a related subject.

An MSc or PhD would be an advantage, but isn't essential.

Most importantly, you'll be able to demonstrate:

  • Strong scientific knowledge and the ability to understand scientific literature
  • Excellent written communication and scientific writing skills
  • The ability to explain complex scientific concepts clearly and accurately
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Confidence working with data
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • An interest in digital marketing and commercial life science
  • The ability and enthusiasm to learn new systems and develop new skills

Experience or knowledge of email marketing, PPC, marketing automation, SEO, website management, digital analytics or scientific content marketing would be useful, but we don't expect you to have experience in all of these areas.

Experience within the life science industry is also helpful but not essential.

Who might this role suit?

You might already be working in life science marketing and be looking for your next opportunity.

Alternatively, you might currently be working in academic or commercial scientific research, scientific communications, technical support or another science-based role and be interested in moving into marketing.

We're particularly interested in people who want to continue using their scientific knowledge while developing broader marketing, digital and commercial skills.

Working at Hello Bio

Hello Bio is a growing life science company supplying high-quality research products to scientists around the world.

Because our customers are scientists, scientific understanding is central to how we communicate. You'll be able to use your scientific background every day while developing skills and experience beyond the laboratory.

You'll work with colleagues across marketing, IT and other areas of the business and have the opportunity to contribute to a broad range of projects.

Ongoing professional development is encouraged and supported.

Location & working arrangements

Our preference is for hybrid working, with regular time spent with the team in our Bristol office.

However, we recognise that the right person may not live within commuting distance of Bristol, so full-time remote working within the UK may be considered for the right candidate.

Remote employees will need to travel to Bristol for selected meetings, training and team activities.

The role also involves occasional UK and international travel to scientific conferences and tradeshows, typically around six trips per year.

Salary & contract

£30,000–£35,000 depending on experience. A higher salary may be considered for an exceptional candidate with particularly relevant experience.
