Multi Trade Operative – Voids (Empty Homes)

Location: Melton Mowbray and surrounding areas, Leicestershire
Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 per annum (depending on experience)

About Gratton Construction

Gratton Construction Ltd is a growing social housing contractor delivering repairs, maintenance, void refurbishment and planned investment works across the East Midlands.

Due to the mobilisation of a new local authority housing contract, we are seeking experienced Multi Trade Operatives to join our dedicated Void Property Team.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a stable and expanding business delivering high-quality refurbishment works to empty homes across Leicestershire.

The Role

You will be responsible for carrying out a wide range of refurbishment, repair and reinstatement works within vacant social housing properties, helping return homes to a safe, clean and lettable standard for incoming residents.

Working within a dedicated voids team, you will undertake works independently and as part of a wider team to ensure properties are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

• Complete multi-trade refurbishment works within void properties.
• Carry out first and second fix carpentry repairs and installations.
• Undertake basic plumbing repairs and sanitary ware replacements.
• Complete patch plastering and making-good works.
• Install kitchens, worktops, doors, skirting boards and ironmongery.
• Carry out wall and floor tiling repairs.
• Undertake preparation, painting and decorating works.
• Complete minor external repairs, fencing and garden reinstatement works.
• Identify and report additional repairs or health and safety concerns.
• Ensure all work complies with company procedures and quality standards.
• Complete digital job records, photographs and paperwork accurately.
• Maintain company vehicles, tools and equipment.

About You

You will have previous experience working within social housing, repairs, maintenance or void refurbishment environments and be capable of delivering multiple trades to a high standard.

Essential Requirements

• Proven experience as a Multi Trade Operative.
• Strong carpentry and general building skills.
• Competent in multiple trades including:
• Carpentry
• Plumbing
• Plastering
• Tiling
• Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
• Strong attention to detail and quality standards.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Willingness to undergo a DBS check.

Desirable Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 or 3 in a relevant trade.
• City & Guilds qualification.
• Asbestos Awareness.
• Manual Handling.
• Working at Height.
• First Aid at Work.
• Previous Social Housing or Void Property experience.

Working Environment

This role primarily involves working within vacant properties; however, some homes may be located within sheltered housing schemes, supported accommodation or communal environments where other residents remain in occupation.
