The Band 5 practitioner role within the Safeguarding Children’s Team at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust involves supporting the team in advancing the safeguarding agenda and ensuring quality assurance across the trust. Key responsibilities include acting as an advocate for children, young people, and families; helping the trust meet statutory safeguarding obligations; ensuring health services for vulnerable groups follow safeguarding policies; promoting health and well-being education; assisting with child protection medical processes; supporting Safeguarding Children’s Nurses and escalating concerns; aiding Children in Care clinics; handling sensitive communications across agencies; fostering effective relationships within and outside the trust; advising external agencies on health matters related to safeguarding; and participating in safeguarding audits.
In summary, the Band 5 practitioner within the Safeguarding Children’s Team at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is entrusted with a wide range of responsibilities that collectively support the safeguarding agenda. The role encompasses advocacy, compliance, education, clinical support, communication, collaboration, advisory, and audit functions. Through these activities, the practitioner contributes to the Trust’s efforts to protect vulnerable children and adults, promote their health and well-being, and ensure that safeguarding practices are robust, effective, and aligned with statutory requirements and best practice guidance.

The Trust is part of the Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care System (ICS) supporting a population of around 1.6 million people.
