Full job description
The Radiotherapy Support worker in the department plays a vital role in supporting the Therapy Radiographer team to provide care to the patients attending for radiotherapy.
As part of the team you will contribute to the to the smooth and effective running of the department and work with the rest of the team to provide the best possible experience for those patients attending for Radiotherapy.
Responsible for providing a range of clinical duties under the guidance and supervision of the team leader, supporting the Therapy Radiography team and the activities of the Rosemere Radiotherapy Department including: assisting patients with personal hygiene, toileting, measuring & monitoring patient output, moving and handling, use of mobility appliances, ensuring patient safety, taking specimens including bloods, blood sugars, taking and recording physical measurements observing patients for changes in condition, carrying out simple dressings, insertion and removal of venflons.
To support the productive operation of the department by undertaking a range of non -clinical activities which contribute to the maintenance of a safe and clean environment.
To act at all times in a manner that upholds the Trust values working as part of the ward team to ensure that patients and relatives receive excellent care with compassion.
The Radiotherapy Department at the Rosemere Cancer Centre is vital service that provides treatment for patients across Lancashire and South Cumbria.
Being part of this team you will be an important member in assisting the team in providing safe and accurate care in a fast paced, busy outpatient department.
You will also be vital in providing the best patient experience whilst the patients are undergoing radiotherapy.
Provide good quality personalised care in accordance with agreed local and national standards.
Take samples from patients for testing or dispatching eg: Urine, sputum, faeces, swabs, bloods, blood sugars and assist staff with appropriate clinical procedures.
Assist staff in caring for patients waiting in the department/awaiting admission, undertaking clinical duties relevant to area following achievement of competencies. Assist in maintaining standards of care to improve patient experience and outcomes. Promote equality in care and practice by recognising the needs and choices of individuals.
Have an overview of the waiting areas to allow monitoring of patients health and safety within the department and the respond to any queries of patients or any care or assistance they may need.
Assist in completing paperwork in areas of the department appropriate that are within competency and assist with on treatment review clinics.
Assist to maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines
Contribute to maintaining safe, clean and productive care environment, compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness
Actively try to resolve issues and complaints at local level and then report the outcome to line manager
