Full job description

We’re looking for a keen gardener to join our team at Gunthorpe Hall, helping to keep our gardens and grounds looking their best throughout the seasons.

Gunthorpe is a characterful old country hall with gardens, grounds and plenty of outdoor space to keep you busy. We’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys being outside, takes pride in their work and understands that a garden is never quite finished. There’s always something to prune, something to plant, something to tame and, occasionally, something that appears to have grown overnight just to spite you.

Whether you’re an experienced gardener or someone with a good grounding in horticulture who’s keen to develop their skills, we’d love to hear from you.

What you’ll be getting stuck into

  • Keeping our gardens and grounds in good order throughout the year.
  • Pruning, weeding, mowing, planting and generally keeping on top of things.
  • Using and looking after gardening tools, machinery and equipment.
  • Helping to care for our landscape and outdoor spaces, with an eye for the little details that make a difference.
  • Keeping work areas tidy and working safely at all times.
  • Working both independently and alongside the rest of our small team to get the job done.

A bit about you

  • You have a genuine interest in gardening, horticulture or the great outdoors.
  • You have previous gardening or grounds maintenance experience.
  • You’re happy using gardening tools and machinery.
  • You can crack on with a job independently, but are equally happy being part of a team.
  • You don’t mind getting your hands dirty or working in typical Norfolk weather. Sunshine is a bonus, not a contractual guarantee.
  • You’re organised, practical and take pride in doing a job properly.
  • You’re physically fit enough for the usual gardening tasks, including digging, lifting, bending and plenty of time on your feet.

What’s on offer?

The chance to work in the gardens and grounds of a distinctive North Norfolk country hall, as part of a friendly, supportive team where practical skills and a good attitude are valued.

Tea breaks and lunch are shared together as a team, three times a day in the Hall.

No two days need to be quite the same, and there’s plenty of scope to put your skills to good use, learn new ones and take pride in the difference you make to the place.

Want to apply?

Tell us what’s made you fancy joining the Gunthorpe team. Why does this particular role appeal to you, what skills or experience would you bring, and what makes you you?

We’d love to hear a little about the person behind the application, not just a list of previous jobs.

Pay: From £26,437.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Discounted or free food
  • Free parking
  • On-site parking

Application question(s):

  • Own transport is essential due to location, do you have the means to travel to work?
