Are you an experienced Parks Operative with a passion for maintaining high-quality parks, green spaces and public facilities?

We are recruiting for Parks Operatives to support the maintenance and upkeep of Belfast City Council's parks, open spaces and recreational facilities. This is an excellent opportunity to join a dedicated team responsible for delivering safe, attractive and well-maintained outdoor environments for the local community.

Your Duties:

• Drive and operate allocated vehicles, trailers and horticultural machinery safely, carrying out daily vehicle checks and basic maintenance.
• Maintain parks, gardens and open spaces through grass cutting, mowing, hedge trimming, pruning, planting, litter collection and general grounds maintenance.
• Operate powered hand tools, horticultural equipment and light plant in accordance with health and safety procedures.
• Assist with the maintenance of sports pitches, fine turf areas, bowling greens, cricket squares and other recreational facilities.
• Carry out horticultural duties including planting trees, shrubs and flowers, soil preparation, cultivation and seasonal maintenance.
• Assist with playground inspections, minor repairs, park furniture maintenance and ensuring public areas meet required quality and safety standards.
• Support the preparation and delivery of community events, work with volunteers and community groups, and provide excellent customer service to park users.
• Report accidents, defects, vandalism and other incidents, complete all required records and documentation, and promote compliance with council by-laws.
• Assist with emergency response duties, staff training and any other operational activities as required.
• Carry out all duties in accordance with health and safety legislation, council policies and procedures, while helping to maintain the council's high standards and reputation.

Your Profile:

• Hold a full, current C1+E driving licence valid for driving vehicles and trailers in Northern Ireland.
• Have at least one year's relevant experience in gardening, horticulture or grounds maintenance, including grass cutting, hedge trimming, planting and general park maintenance.
• Experience using powered hand tools and horticultural machinery safely in accordance with health and safety regulations.
• Experience dealing with members of the public in a customer-facing environment.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good knowledge of horticultural practices, plant care and health and safety procedures.
• A valid Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) would be advantageous and may be used as a shortlisting criterion.
• Successful applicants will be required to pass a Belfast City Council driving assessment where applicable.

Additional Information:

• Full time, Temporary.
• 37 hours per week.
• Belfast Castle, Belfast.
