Full job description

About the role

You will be working in the Landscaping team, developing practical skills and a deep knowledge about Arborist and Landscaping operations in the Environment section of Cormac Solutions Highways and Environment service.

This is an apprenticeship post, and you will be learning whilst working gaining a level 2 then level 3 apprenticeship qualification in Arbiculture and going to college as appropriate. Please view apprenticeship standard: Arborist / Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education

Duties include (but are not limited to)

  • Select appropriate equipment for the Load and unload equipment safely
  • Process tree work arisings using appropriate machinery
  • Take appropriate care of tools, equipment and customer property
  • Recognise a basic range of tree and shrub species using common and scientific names
  • Identify pests, diseases, disorders and tree defects
  • Carry out a range of ground-based pruning operations
  • Fell and process small trees
  • Prepare sites for planting, plant trees and provide support, protection and aftercare
  • Use and maintain powered and non-powered tools and equipment

What we’re looking for:

You will be committed to completing a level 2 & 3 Arborist apprenticeship and continuing your personal development.

  • You will be trustworthy, dependable and work well in a team
  • You will be able to communicate well with your team, your employers, tutors and the public
  • You will be safety conscious, have a strong awareness of the health and safety of both yourself and others.
  • You will be resilient, adaptable and keen to learn and complete your apprenticeship
  • The ability to travel locally and work at different locations

College / Training

Your qualification will be delivered at Bicton College with attendance required in the format of blocks of study and learning on campus.

Our offer to you:

Salary: £14,500 in the first year, progressing to the Real Living Wage (as set by the Living Wage Foundation)

Contract: permanent, full time

Working Hours: 37 per week

Location: Scorrier or Bodmin

Closing Date: Midnight Sunday 16 June 2024
