Key Responsibilities

Department: Estates

Responsible to: Head of Grounds & Gardens

Hours of work: Annual average of 37.5 hours per week. Core working hours are Monday to Friday, but the nature of the role means some weekend working will be required

Specific working hours will be seasonal:

April to September – 7.30am to 4.30pm

November to February – 8.00am to 2.30pm

October and March – 8.00am to 3.00pm

Grade/Salary: £27,235 (Point 7 on the Support Scale)

Overall purpose of the post:

The successful candidate will support in the upkeep of the grounds and gardens and when required the sports pitches for the whole school site, ensuring that the appearance of the external areas of the school site are always maintained to the highest standards.

Working closely with the Head Gardener

· To assist in maintaining the whole school site to the highest possible standards.

· To provide a professional standard of maintenance to the grounds, gardens and playing surfaces.

Key responsibilities:

Gardens

To maintain the school gardens including boarding house gardens, keeping the plants and trees in good health, flower beds regularly weeded and ensuring that the appearance of all external areas of the school site are always kept to the highest standards.

Main duties

· To maintain hedging, trees and shrubs and footpaths.

· Weeding of borders and footpaths.

· To ensure lawn and grass areas are maintained to a high standard of presentation.

· To apply fertilisers and pesticides as directed.

· To undertake in house landscaping and planting projects.

· Confident to operate a large range of pedestrian & ride on machinery

· Propagation of plants

· Mulching of borders

Grounds Duties

To support when required in the upkeep of the sports pitches as required.

Other duties may include

· Maintenance of grounds equipment and tools including daily safety checks

· Driving, operating and safekeeping of all machines allocated for use by grounds and gardens staff.

· Snow clearing and gritting in severe weather.

· To respond to day-to-day requests for the wider Estates Department.
