Full job description

Tree Spade & Plant Operator

We are looking for a practical, motivated individual to join our team, primarily working with the planting, relocation and ongoing maintenance of semi-mature trees using a tree spade.

The role is based on the 5,500-acre Heveningham Estate, working amongst beautiful parkland, woodland and landscaped grounds in a varied outdoor environment.

The position will involve operating a range of machinery including skid steers, tractors, forklifts and diggers/excavators, alongside hands-on work. We are looking for someone who is equally comfortable working outside the machine as they are operating it.

The successful applicant will need to be self-motivated, reliable and able to work efficiently to agreed targets. A practical approach to problem-solving is important, along with a good level of mechanical understanding and the ability to think for yourself when working on site.

A background in forestry, agriculture, landscaping, arboriculture or a similar practical industry would be an advantage. Previous experience with tree spades or all of the machinery listed above is not essential; the right attitude, practical ability and willingness to learn are key.

The role will include:

  • Planting and relocating semi-mature trees using a tree spade
  • Tree establishment and ongoing maintenance
  • Operating skid steers, tractors, forklifts and diggers/excavators
  • General site preparation and hands-on work
  • Basic machinery checks and maintenance
  • Working independently and as part of a team
  • Working efficiently to daily and weekly targets
  • Identifying problems and finding practical solutions on site

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Self-motivated and dependable
  • Mechanically and practically minded
  • Confident operating machinery, or willing and capable of learning
  • Happy to carry out physical work as well as machine operation
  • Able to take responsibility for their work
  • Safety conscious
  • Able to work to a high standard without constant supervision

This position would particularly suit someone from an agricultural, forestry or landscaping background who enjoys varied work, machinery and working outdoors in a unique estate environment.

Pay: £30,000.00-£33,000.00 per year

Work Location: In person
