Chaffin Works are industry leaders in the delivery of utility site clearance, tree surgery, landscaping, grounds maintenance and ecological consultancy for commercial and public sector clients across the South, we are renowned for providing high quality services for our clients, having an excellent company culture and are well known for our development of colleagues.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and ambitious Works Manager to join the team, driving the progression and development of our utility works in the region, managing utility arb and de-veg teams to deliver safe, high quality works for your client. Working alongside the Contracts Manager you will have experience in utility works, managing teams, planning and delivery.
You will be a confident communicator with the ability to develop and build on relationships, helping to enhance our portfolio. Holding UA tickets is essential for this role.
Key responsibilities:
- Conduct regular site visits to assess project requirements, perform risk assessments, and provide accurate scoping reports.
- Manage utility surveyors to develop safe and efficient delivery programmes with the customer in mind
- Liaise with stakeholders to gather information, ensure alignment with project goals, and evaluate site conditions.
- Develop and maintain efficient work rotas to ensure optimal staffing levels and smooth operations across sites.
- Ensure coverage for all shifts, manage holiday/sick leave, and handle unforeseen changes to rosters.
- Act as the first point of contact for frontline staff, addressing concerns, providing support, and facilitating communication between teams and management.
- Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and workforce planning.
- Oversee the contract lifecycle, ensuring all contractual obligations are met on time and within budget. Liaising with contracts Manager as required.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations during contract execution.
- Liaise with clients and contractors to resolve any contract-related issues.
- Conduct regular site audits to ensure adherence to health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
- Offer feedback and implement corrective actions when required. Collaborate with the compliance department to document and establish best practices.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant industry regulations, legal requirements, and company policies.
- Monitor and report on compliance issues openly and recommend corrective actions and work with the compliance team when necessary.
Essential requirements:
- Experience in the Utilities sector
- Experience managing arb and de-veg teams
- Ability to write RAMS
- Be It literate with strong communication skills
- A full clean drivers licence
