Grounds Maintenance Team Leader

Lancing

£29,362 - £30,908 per year

40 hours per week – Monday to Friday, 8am to 4:30pm

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Grounds Maintenance Team Leader to join our team. This is a hands-on role where you will lead a team of Operatives in delivering high-quality grounds maintenance services across a range of sites in Sussex, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to an excellent standard.

As a Team Leader, you will play a key role in motivating staff, maintaining client satisfaction, and ensuring all work is completed in line with company standards and health and safety requirements.

The role of Grounds Maintenance Team Leader will include:

  • Leading and supervising a grounds maintenance team on a daily basis
  • Allocating work and monitoring performance to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard.
  • Carrying out a variety of grounds maintenance duties including: grass cutting and lawn care, hedge trimming and pruning, weed control, planting and landscaping activities and leaf clearance along with seasonal maintenance
  • Conducting site inspections and quality checks
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety policies and procedures
  • Carrying out basic maintenance checks on vehicles, machinery, and equipment
  • Communicating effectively with clients, residents, and management teams
  • Completing relevant paperwork, job records, and timesheets accurately
  • Carrying out all hazardous tasks such as spraying, in accordance with supplier guidelines and in a safe manner, ensuring relevant records are maintained to comply with health and safety and legal requirements

Skills and experiences:

  • Literacy and numeracy equivalent to grade C GCSE English and Maths
  • NVQ3 or equivalent in Horticulture or similar discipline
  • Pesticide Application Certificate PA1 – PA6 (or equivalent)
  • Some experience in supervising others
  • Recent experience of undertaking a similar role
  • Some practical experience of operating machinery
  • Ability to use and update computerised systems (including PDA) for work scheduling
  • This role will involve driving on company business. In order to drive a company vehicle, drivers must hold a full valid UK driving licence
