Full job description

About Us

Love Landscaping is a growing landscaping and garden construction company based in Salisbury, delivering high-quality residential and commercial projects across Salisbury, Winchester and the Test Valley.

We specialise in complete garden transformations and landscape construction, covering everything from groundworks and paving through to retaining walls, fencing, timberwork, turfing and planting.

As we continue to take on larger, more design-led projects, we're looking to establish a working relationship with an experienced and reliable Self-Employed Skilled Landscaper to support our installation team.

We can offer regular, ongoing work for the right person, with the potential for a long-term working relationship.

The Opportunity

This opportunity would suit an experienced self-employed landscaper who takes genuine pride in their workmanship and is confident delivering high-quality hard and soft landscaping with minimal supervision.

You'll work alongside our existing team on a variety of residential and occasional commercial projects, contributing your skills and experience to help deliver consistently high standards.

We're particularly interested in someone with strong hard landscaping experience who understands the importance of proper preparation, accurate setting out, levels, falls and attention to detail.

We're looking for someone who can get involved from day one, work efficiently and take responsibility for the quality of their own work.

What the Work Involves

Depending on your experience and the requirements of each project, work may include:

  • Ground preparation, excavation, footings, sub-bases and drainage
  • Installation of porcelain, natural stone and other paving
  • Construction of steps, retaining walls, blockwork and landscape features
  • Installation of fencing, gates, decking, pergolas and other timberwork
  • Turfing, soil preparation, planting and general soft landscaping
  • Accurate setting out, including measurements, levels, falls and gradients
  • Working from garden designs, landscape plans and specifications
  • Safe and efficient operation of landscaping machinery, plant and power tools
  • Working independently or alongside our installation team to complete projects efficiently
  • Maintaining high standards of workmanship, site safety and cleanliness
  • Identifying potential issues and communicating effectively with the team

What We're Looking For

Essential

  • 5+ Years Experience
  • Proven hands-on experience in professional landscaping and garden construction
  • Strong hard landscaping skills, particularly paving, fencing and retaining walls
  • Experience installing porcelain and natural stone paving to a high standard
  • Good understanding of ground preparation, sub-bases, levels, falls and drainage
  • Competence in soft landscaping, including turfing and soil preparation
  • Ability to interpret landscape plans, measurements and specifications
  • Experience safely operating landscaping machinery and power tools
  • Ability to work independently and alongside other tradespeople
  • Excellent attention to detail and pride in your workmanship
  • Reliable, professional and able to communicate effectively
  • Good understanding of site health and safety
  • Full UK driving licence and own transport
  • Valid right to work in the UK
  • Ability to work on a genuine self-employed basis and provide invoices for completed work

Desirable

  • CSCS card
  • NPORS or CPCS plant qualifications
  • SSSTS or SMSTS
  • Experience operating mini excavators and dumpers
  • Experience delivering larger or designer-led landscaping projects
  • Own professional hand tools
  • Public liability insurance
  • CIS registration, where applicable

Formal qualifications are beneficial, but practical experience, quality of workmanship and reliability are what matter most to us.

What We Can Offer

  • Competitive day rates, agreed based on experience and capability
  • Regular, ongoing subcontract work for the right person
  • Opportunity to establish a long-term working relationship with a growing company
  • High-quality residential and occasional commercial landscaping projects
  • Varied work across hard and soft landscaping
  • Access to site machinery, plant and specialist equipment as required
  • Organised projects with materials and work programmes coordinated by our team
  • A professional, friendly working environment where good workmanship is valued
  • Clear communication regarding upcoming projects and availability

We're looking to build a reliable network of skilled subcontractors who we can work with regularly as the business continues to grow.

Location

Our projects are based in Salisbury and the surrounding areas, including Winchester, Romsey and the Test Valley, with most sites within approximately one hour of Salisbury.

Ideally, applicants should be based within around 30 minutes of Salisbury, although we'll consider experienced landscapers from further afield.

Applicants must have their own reliable transport to reach project sites.

What It's Like to Work With Us

We're a small, ambitious team with a strong focus on quality workmanship, professionalism and customer service.

Our projects are varied, and we take pride in delivering landscaping work to a standard we're happy to put our name to.

We value people who are experienced, dependable, take initiative and care about the finished result.

For the right subcontractor, we hope to offer a consistent stream of work and develop a mutually beneficial working relationship over the longer term.

Application Process

Shortlisted applicants will initially be invited to a brief telephone conversation to discuss their experience, availability and expected day rate.

Suitable applicants may then be offered an agreed paid trial day or initial subcontract assignment, allowing both parties to assess whether we're a good fit.

If you're an experienced self-employed landscaper interested in regular work with a professional landscaping company, we'd be keen to hear from you.

Please apply with a brief outline of your experience, your expected day rate and your current availability. Photographs of previous landscaping projects would also be welcome.
