Background:

Laurel Landscapes is a landscaping and grounds maintenance contractor working predominantly in the commercial sector. Work includes hard and soft landscape installation, sports facility construction, playground construction, ecology and grounds maintenance works. The company is based in Cardiff and covers south Wales and the south west of England.

Job Overview:

You will be a key part of a successful team in this well-established business. You will be responsible for managing all aspects of contract negotiations and ensuring compliance with contractual agreements. This is a key role that requires strong project management skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with clients. The company has a strong forward order book that is driving the need for a Senior Contracts Manager to work alongside the Managing Director and - in time - to manage the day-to-day running of the company.

Job Description:

The Contracts Manager is responsible for -

  • Daily running of work schedules, to deliver safe and compliant services to meet contractual specifications on time and on budget. This role will involve scheduling work, managing team members, co-ordinating the supply of information, equipment and materials and managing client relationships on site
  • Ensure that resources are used efficiently and works are delivered on time
  • Work with foremen/supervisors to ensure that all operatives are fully equipped each day with the necessary tools, equipment and materials to complete required tasks
  • Undertake regular site visits to ensure that operations are carried out to the appropriate quality, frequency and timescales
  • Ensure all contracts are fully manned with the correct number of appropriately skilled and trained staff
  • Manage staff attendance and plan for seasonal demand variations, leave, sickness and absence to ensure that all contractual obligations are met and maintained
  • Ensure operatives’ time is managed effectively
  • Conduct operational reviews with customers, as required, to ensure contract compliance
  • Deal with any customer issues, effectively manage any operational deficiencies and communicate all corrective actions back to customers within agreed timescales
  • Ensure all systems and procedures are in place for effective operations in a compliant manner, implementing company policy as appropriate and recognising authority limits for role
  • Proactively take responsibility for all Health and Safety matters relating to staff, sites, contracts and vehicles, equipment and machinery under their remit
  • Create a positive safety culture where everyone works efficiently and safely, risks are mitigated with the aim of achieving zero accidents
  • Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with the correct policies and procedures
  • Work closely with the foreman/supervisors to ensure that all vehicles, equipment and machinery used to deliver their contracts are properly maintained
  • Achieve monthly sales targets, as set by the MD
  • Maintain good relationships and control suppliers to ensure on time delivery of goods, materials and equipment, guaranteeing quality and competitive rates
  • Continually drive costs out of service delivery without impacting on service quality
  • Ensure each operative is trained and competent for the operations they will be undertaking
  • Create an environment where staff realise high levels of trust, which leads to excellent attendance, competency, loyalty and retention
  • Carry out all duties in a manner and style that reflects the company’s values and respects all employees and customers

Person Specification:

  • Educated to degree level or the equivalent
  • A sound background in horticulture
  • A minimum of 8 years' relevant experience
  • Professional, proactive and confident manager
  • CSCS Card
  • Understanding of Health & Safety compliance / ISOH Regulations
  • Experience of managing teams
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to achieve favorable outcomes
  • Exceptional time management and organisational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and other relevant software applications
