Legal Assistant / Paralegal

Private Client Department – Wills and Probate
Bedford |Full-time | Office-based

Who this role is for

This role is suited to:

  • Law graduates or junior candidates looking to build a career in Private Client law through structured training; or
  • Paralegals with some experience in Wills, LPAs and Probate who are seeking progression and increased responsibility.

The Role

We are recruiting a Legal Assistant / Paralegal to join our busy and growing Private Client Department.

You will support Fee Earners and Supervisors across Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney, Probate, Tax Planning and Trusts, with the aim of progressing to managing a caseload of routine Private Client matters within 12–24 months, subject to experience and performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting Fee Earners with Private Client matters
  • Drafting routine documentation and correspondence
  • Progressing files and managing administrative tasks
  • Liaising with clients, third parties and internal teams
  • Adhering to internal processes, compliance requirements and deadlines
  • Supporting fee earning work, with responsibility increasing over time

As your experience develops, you will have opportunities to manage your own caseload and generate fees in line with agreed targets.

Hours & Location

  • Full-time: 37.5 hours per week
  • Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5.30pm
  • Office-based at our Bedford offices

Salary

  • £24,000 per annum, with progression and salary review as responsibility and fee-earning develop

Candidate Specification

Essential

  • A genuine interest in Private Client law
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage deadlines
  • A professional, proactive and reliable approach
  • Strong IT skills and attention to detail

Desirable

  • A law degree, GDL or LPC (LPC preferred but not essential)
  • Previous experience in a legal or paralegal role
  • Exposure to private client law
  • Familiarity with fee generation and compliance requirements

Training & Progression

We recruit Paralegals with a long-term view and provide structured training and supervision.

Priority is given to candidates who have worked as a Paralegal at the firm for 1–2 years when considering Training Contracts, subject to performance and business need. Many of our current Fee Earners and Solicitors joined the firm initially as Paralegals.
