The Faculty of Life Sciences and Education is seeking an experienced Counsellor or Psychotherapist and an enthusiastic Senior Lecturer to join our team and contribute to the BA Counselling and Therapeutic Practice programme.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant contribution to a well-established and highly regarded, UG counselling training in Wales and beyond. You will join a clinically and academically experienced team, leading the development of this popular course, that widens access to and leads in contemporary pluralistic practice.

  • Make a substantial contribution to the delivery of the BA Counselling and Therapeutic Practice course.
  • Maintain a strong focus on student recruitment and high quality student experience, and the regulatory requirements of the University and the professional regulating body, the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.
  • Lead on partnerships, industry engagement, and graduate skills development and outcomes.
  • Contribute to the delivery of other courses within the academic portfolio at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Engage in professional development and scholarly activity.

This dynamic role is pivotal in supporting the continued development of the course and contributing to the wider University’s Psychology and Therapeutic Interventions subject area.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be an experienced Counsellor or Psychotherapist, accredited by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) or a comparable regulating body – HCPC, BPS, UKCP.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to excellence in learning, teaching, and professional practice.
  • Preferably have previous experience of teaching in Higher or Further Education.
  • Play a key leadership role across academic and placement activities in line with BACP training requirements, including facilitating Clinical Skills and Personal Development groups.
  • Lead student recruitment and experience processes (e.g., fitness to practice, complaints, quality assurance) in collaboration with the course team and university support services.
  • Show a commitment to pursuing personal professional development and scholarly activity, including research.

The course is part of a range of psychotherapeutic programmes at the University, based on the well resourced Newport Campus, with access to bespoke teaching rooms and the USW Therapy Clinic.

This is a permanent, part time 0.6 FTE role. Applicants will need to commit to being available on core teaching days – Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
