The Capital Markets Practice Group for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) handles and advises on a broad portfolio of capital markets matters through a team located in London and Mumbai.

As a Capital Markets lawyer – Assistant Vice President in Legal department you will be responsible primarily for documenting, reviewing and executing EMEA DCM transactions including investment grade, high yield and emerging markets bond issues, hybrid capital, covered bonds, as well as liability management. The candidate will closely work with the business teams, risk and control areas and Legal colleagues globally.

Job responsibilities

  • Pro-actively support the business groups across EMEA and other offices globally which originate transactions, through structuring and execution of transaction including review and negotiation of legal documents, legal advice, and providing guidance on risk assessment and solutions
  • Liaise with the business teams, other control areas and colleagues in Legal in setting/maintaining documentation standards, internal policies, practice guidelines, and monitoring relevant legal, regulatory and documentation developments
  • Pro-actively sharing experience and know-how with colleagues in Legal, where appropriate globally. Provide training to the business and within Legal
  • Participate in Legal and Firm-wide projects

Required qualifications, skills and capabilities

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and execution skills. and results-driven
  • Ability to think laterally to identify and assess wider risks for the Firm, and to proactively work with the business and other control functions to find solutions
  • Ability to cope with a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team player, proactively and multi-task
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Keen interest in transactional, legal regulatory work
  • Must be able to demonstrate solid debt capital markets experience at a law firm or an in-house legal team at an investment bank.
  • Lawyer must be licensed to practice law and a member in good standing in the state/jurisdiction in which the position is based or otherwise in compliance with the in-house counsel registration rules of that state/jurisdiction.

Preferred qualifications, skills and capabilities

  • Foreign languages – an advantage but not a necessity
