Full job description

Legal Assistant – Wills & Estate Planning

Location: Bedford (Office-Based)

About the Role

We are looking for a motivated, organised and detail-oriented individual to join our growing Wills & Estate Planning team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is looking to build a long-term career within estate planning. You do not need to be an experienced Will Drafter, as full training will be provided. Instead, we are looking for someone with excellent administrative skills, a strong eye for detail, and a willingness to learn.

Working alongside our experienced team, you will initially provide administrative and drafting support while developing the knowledge and skills required to prepare Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney and other estate planning documents. As your experience grows, you will take on increasing responsibility and have the opportunity to progress within the department.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Supporting the Wills & Estate Planning team with the day-to-day running of the department.
  • Preparing client correspondence, legal packs and supporting documentation.
  • Maintaining accurate client records using our case management systems.
  • Answering telephone and email enquiries and providing excellent client service.
  • Scanning, filing and organising electronic and paper files.
  • Assisting with incoming and outgoing post and document storage procedures.
  • Liaising with clients to obtain outstanding information and documentation.
  • Learning to prepare Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney and other estate planning documents under supervision.
  • Carrying out quality checks to ensure documents are accurate and compliant.
  • Managing your workload to ensure agreed turnaround times are achieved.
  • Providing general administrative support to the wider team as required.

What We Are Looking For

Essential

  • Excellent written English, grammar and attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills.
  • Excellent communication and client care skills.
  • A professional and proactive approach.
  • Good IT skills and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • The ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines.
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • A collaborative approach and willingness to work as part of an office-based team.

Desirable

  • Experience working within a legal or professional services environment.
  • Experience preparing legal documentation.
  • Exposure to Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney or estate planning.
  • Knowledge of probate or trusts.

What Success Looks Like

  • Providing reliable administrative support to the team.
  • Producing accurate and high-quality documentation.
  • Developing the technical skills required to prepare estate planning documents independently.
  • Maintaining excellent client service standards.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to support the efficient operation of the department.
  • Demonstrating continuous development and progression within the role.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary depending on experience.
  • Structured training and ongoing development.
  • Clear career progression opportunities.
  • A supportive and collaborative office environment.
  • The opportunity to develop into a skilled Will Drafter and progress within a growing team.
