About the Role:

We are looking for an experienced and collaborative Legal Operations Lead to help shape the future of Legal Operations at bp. This role sits within the change, strategy and governance layer of Legal Operations and will play a key role in transforming how legal services are delivered. You will work closely with the Head of Legal Operations and stakeholders across Legal and the wider business to implement strategic initiatives, drive operational excellence and support a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing function at a pivotal stage in its development. While the role will initially operate as an individual contributor position, it is expected to evolve into a people leadership role as the Legal Operations team expands.

What you'll do:

  • Help shape and implement the future Legal Operations operating model, ensuring the function can scale effectively and sustainably

  • Lead strategic projects and transformation initiatives that improve how Legal delivers value to the business

  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to simplify processes, improve user experience and increase efficiency

  • Ensure Legal professionals have access to the right tools, vendors, processes and data to perform effectively

  • Manage budget and spend reporting activities and support data-driven decision making

  • Build strong partnerships across Legal, Technology, Procurement, Finance and other business functions

  • Foster collaboration, knowledge sharing and a culture of experimentation and innovation

Essential experience:

  • Experience in Legal Operations or a closely related role within a corporate legal team, law firm or similar environment

  • Experience supporting legal processes, legal technology, operational improvement or transformation initiatives

  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage and influence diverse audiences

  • Experience managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making capability

  • A collaborative approach and a genuine enjoyment of working with and through others

We'd be particularly interested in candidates who have:

  • Experience within a global or multinational organisation

  • Exposure to legal technology, legal innovation or process automation initiatives

  • Experience leading change and helping teams adopt new ways of working

  • People leadership experience or a desire to develop into a leadership role

  • Experience partnering with Finance, Procurement, Technology or other business functions

Education:

We welcome candidates with a degree or equivalent experience in:
