About the Role

We are seeking a motivated Trainee Legal Counsel to join our legal team. This role supports the wider business across corporate, commercial, employment and compliance matters, working closely with senior lawyers on a broad range of legal tasks. The role is well suited to a candidate at the early stages of their legal career who is looking to develop into a qualified lawyer or in-house legal professional, and who can bring Mandarin language skills to support work with Chinese-speaking stakeholders, clients, or counterparties.

Key Responsibilities

· Provide day-to-day legal and administrative support to the legal team

· Under the supervision and guidance of the Legal Manager and senior legal team, draft, review, and proofread contracts, letters, and legal correspondence under supervision

· Conduct legal research on points of English law and prepare summary notes

· Assist with due diligence exercises, contract management, and document organisation

· Support, under supervision, compliance monitoring, including data protection (UK GDPR) and regulatory filings

· Liaise with internal stakeholders and external counsel, including Mandarin-speaking counterparties, under the direction of the Legal Manager where appropriate

· Maintain accurate records, trackers, and legal databases

· Assist with bilingual review of documents between English and Mandarin where needed (not translation of the documents)

· Support, under supervision, on ad hoc projects, including corporate transactions, employment matters, and IP-related work

Essential Requirements

· Preferred: a law degree or equivalent legal qualification recognised for practice in England and Wales, including enrolment on or completion of LPC, GDL/PGDL or a Master's degree (LLM/MA) with a focus on English Law, or modules on modules in Contract and Tort

· Candidates who graduated in 2025 or later and have studied Contract Law, Trust Law and Tort Law as part of their degree will also be considered.

· Strong academic background;

· Excellent written and spoken English and Mandarin

· Strong attention to detail and organisational skills

· Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines with professionalism and discretion

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); familiarity with document management systems is a plus

Desirable Experience & Qualifications

· Prior work experience in a law firm, in-house legal team, or related professional services environment (e.g. via a vacation scheme, internship, or paralegal placement)

· Familiarity or experience with English contract law principles and commercial drafting conventions

· Interest in pursuing further qualification (e.g. SQE, training contract, or equivalent route to qualification)
