About the role

The firm is seeking a capable and motivated Paralegal or Legal Executive to work in the Private Client department work part-time, 22.5 hours per week. The salary advertised is the full-time equivalent salary. The successful candidate will support solicitors in delivering a high‑quality service to clients across a range of matters, including wills, probate, estates administration, trusts, and lasting powers of attorney.

Key Responsibilities for Private Client

Probate & Estate Administration

  • Support the administration of estates from initial instruction through to distribution.
  • Prepare applications for Grants of Probate and Letters of Administration.
  • Collect and value estate assets and liabilities.
  • Assist with the preparation and submission of Inheritance Tax returns.
  • Arrange asset realisation and distribution to beneficiaries.

Wills, Trusts & Powers of Attorney

  • Take detailed instructions from clients (where appropriate).
  • Draft basic Wills and codicils for review by supervising solicitor.
  • Prepare and register Lasting Powers of Attorney.
  • Updating the Will register.
  • Managing Trust Registrations.
  • Assist with trust administration, including preparing trust documentation and correspondence.

Client Care & Communication

  • Handle telephone enquiries and respond to routine correspondence.
  • Manage sensitive conversations with professionalism and empathy.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Conduct client due diligence and anti-money laundering checks in line with SRA requirements.
  • Ensure files are maintained in accordance with SRA Accounts Rules and firm policies.
  • Maintain accurate time recording and billing support.
  • Assist with file reviews and audit preparation where required.

Financial Administration

  • Prepare completion statements and bills.
  • Request funds and process payments in accordance with accounts procedures.

About you

  • Previous experience in a Private Client department preferred
  • Strong understanding of wills, probate, and estate administration processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of accuracy, organisation, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion and empathy.
  • Confident in managing multiple tasks and working to deadlines.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office and case management systems.
  • Professional, proactive, and client‑focused approach.
