Senior Carpentry and Joinery Trainer – Barnsley College

Salary: £31,280 to £40,205 per annum (including uplift)
Contract Type: Permanent | Full time - 37 hours per week

The opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Carpentry & Joinery Trainer to manage a small team of trainers within our growing Apprenticeships department. You will be responsible for working with and developing the team to ensure that the curriculum meets the needs of our employers and their apprentices to ensure future growth within the provision.

Our new Senior Carpentry & Joinery Trainer would be expected to liaise with the wider department to ensure the requirements of the apprenticeship team are met, and apprentices achieve and progress to the next steps in their career. You will have a reduced caseload of apprentices who you will support and mentor to achieve their apprenticeship standard for Carpentry and Joinery, whilst also working closely with employers to ensure that the learners develop their skills within the workplace.

Main duties include:

· Leading on the delivery of Carpentry and Joinery apprenticeships at Level 2 and Level 3

· To review and monitor the delivery of all Construction Craft apprenticeships to ensure that they meet the needs of both the employer and their apprentice(s)

· Working closely with the Quality Team / Teaching and Learning Coaches to ensure that teaching, learning and assessment methods are of the highest standard

· Ensure the implementation of a robust standardisation process

Ongoing Staff development is a key element in this role, which focusses on continuous improvement to ensure skills remain current and demonstrate good practice in teaching, learning an assessment. You will work within our state-of-the-art Construction facility which houses innovative and inspiring work areas with industry-led equipment, providing a high-quality learning experience for students.

About you

Are you an experienced industry specialist with a desire to learn new skills, or perhaps a skilled Trainer / Assessor looking for a new challenge?

The ideal candidate will be passionate about developing others, creative in the way they talk about their craft and have extensive knowledge within industry, providing real life experiences and examples to our apprentices. Within this senior role, you will also be required to mentor Trainers within your team, so it is important that you possess the skills to support them and lead by example.

There are a growing number of industry trained professionals looking to retrain as Trainers; a fulfilling career where experience and knowledge can be passed on to the next generation of skilled tradespeople. If you have demonstrated experience working as a Carpenter or Joiner, with the passion to share your knowledge with the next generation, this is the role for you.
