Full job description

Physiotherapist? Looking for a fresh career path?

A Functional Assessor role with ExamWorks could be your next step in healthcare!
Are you ready to apply your clinical knowledge in a new way—without the physical toll of traditional patient care? As a Functional Assessor, you'll join a skilled team conducting impartial assessments to assist claimants in receiving Personal Independent Payment (PIP) benefits.
This role lets you evaluate conditions, assess impact on daily life, and write detailed reports to support DWP (Department for Work and Pensions) decisions. You’ll enhance your analytical skills while making a tangible difference—without long shifts, weekend work, or hands-on patient care.

What We Offer:
  • Structured career progression—move into roles such as Clinical Support Lead, Mentor, Trainer, or Interviewer
  • Work-life balance—Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 16:30 (no evenings or weekends!)
  • Hybrid working—blend remote and office-based assessments for flexibility
  • Competitive salary plus extensive benefits package
  • Fully funded training—including classroom-based, practical learning & mentorship
  • Professional development—all CPD provided, with ongoing guidance

Your Role:
  • Conduct three assessments per day, combining telephone and face-to-face evaluations
  • Review medical conditions and analyse their impact on daily life
  • Write detailed 3,000–4,000-word reports with supporting clinical evidence
  • Enhance your knowledge of diverse health conditions, including mental health, physical impairments, and learning disabilities
  • Participate in training and CPD sessions for continuous growth

Who We Need:
  • At least one year post-qualification experience (Nurse, Paramedic, Physiotherapist, or Occupational Therapist)
  • Registered with NMC or HCPC (valid PIN, no restrictions)
  • Compassionate and empathetic approach to patient assessments
  • Strong time management skills—able to work to targets while ensuring high-quality reports
  • Good computer literacy—comfortable with typing and digital assessments

Why ExamWorks?
We’ve proudly supported the DWP for over a decade, ensuring fair and effective PIP assessments. Our team is dedicated to healthcare across multiple sectors, including MedCo Legal, Occupational Health, and Rehabilitation Services.

What’s in it for you?
  • Competitive basic salary
  • Hybrid working model—work from home a few days each week
  • 23 days’ holiday (+ extra benefits like paid volunteering days)
  • Annual professional registration fee reimbursement
  • Company pension, private healthcare & bi-annual health screenings
  • Exclusive discounts on retail, travel, tech, and social activities
  • Refer-a-friend bonus

We are an equal opportunity employer and proud to be a Disability Confident Leader—welcoming applicants from all backgrounds.
With training dates available throughout the year, we’re looking for professionals with experience in mental health, physical health, and learning disabilities. We’ll coach and support you as you transition into a rewarding non-clinical environment.

Ready for a new challenge? Apply today—our internal recruitment team is here to guide you through the process!
