Housing Mental Wellbeing Coach
Housing Mental Wellbeing Coach
Job details
Full job description
Background: IMPAKT Housing & Support has been providing homes and support to people with complex needs since 1991. We are a Registered Social Landlord, registered charity, and Psychologically Informed Environment (PIE) provider, and we take all three seriously. We directly house over 400 people across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Northamptonshire who have experienced homelessness, domestic abuse, or trauma, and we work hard every day to make sure that a home with IMPAKT is the stable foundation from which people can rebuild their lives.
Beyond our directly managed provision, we deliver domestic abuse outreach services across the East of England, operate a community food larder, and run social enterprise retail stores. We are also developing a growing partnership housing model, working alongside specialist third-sector organisations across the Southwest, Kent, and North and South Yorkshire to extend our reach.
Our approach is rooted in trauma-informed, psychologically informed practice. We believe that understanding what has happened to someone, rather than focusing solely on their presenting behaviour, is the key to supporting lasting change. It shapes how we design our services, how we train our staff, and how we show up for the people we support every single day.
We are a registered provider and charity, and we take our responsibilities seriously. We maintain high occupancy, low rent arrears, and strong governance standards because sustainable, well-run services are how we protect the people who depend on us.
We look for staff who are genuinely motivated by making a difference, people who will go the extra mile not because they are told to, but because they care. In return, we offer a competitive remuneration package, real investment in your development, and a working environment where your contribution to ending homelessness is recognised and valued.
IMPAKT Housing and Support is an equal opportunities employer
This role is subject to safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS check, reference checks, and employment history verification. We are committed to safeguarding residents and service users of all ages and expect all staff to uphold our safety and protection standards.
Job Purpose: To be a part of our friendly, proactive housing team, providing tailored support to people who have endured homelessness and now reside in our supported accommodation projects. By building trusting relationships, you will work in a psychologically informed way to help residents to overcome trauma, build resilience, work towards their goals and aspirations and develop the skills needed for sustainable independent living.
In recent years, we have seen an increase in numbers of people residing in our supported accommodation projects experiencing poor mental health. The purpose of the role is to improve the quality of care we are able to deliver and to generate better outcomes for these residents. Using your excellent clinical knowledge, you will liaise with residents, housing & healthcare professionals to establish an effective interdisciplinary care plan, based on the individuals needs and wishes. To be the ‘go-to’ person for keeping the individual’s service provision on-track, monitoring and evaluating progress to ensure that best outcomes are achieved.
Hours: Monday to Friday, on a rotating weekly shift pattern of 08:00–16:00 and 12:00–20:00.
Our Values:
Aspirational – We believe everyone can be the best they can be and dream big dreams.
Caring – We believe everyone should be cared for.
Empowering – We believe we should support and encourage people to take ownership of their lives to enable them to achieve positive change.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Housing
- Respond to general enquiries about the housing project and assist with managing referrals.
- Assess the suitability of applicants through PNC check and ‘getting to know you’ meetings.
- Support with the induction process, ensuring residents feel welcome and understand their rights and responsibilities within the service.
- Be responsible for a caseload of residents and guide them in practical applications - receipt of benefits, registering for additional services, keeping appointments, independent living skills etc.
- Hold regular support meetings with residents to review aspirations, help set goals and monitor progress in the Personal Development Plan (PDP)
- Work in a trauma informed way, providing on-going practical and emotional support, guidance and signposting to help residents manage their wellbeing and sustain their accommodation.
- Implement and monitor safety plans & risk assessments, revising & recording as appropriate.
- Ensure that the voices of residents are consistently sought to enable them to shape service delivery.
- Operate within the rent arrears and voids policy and procedures to contribute towards the overall targets for the organisation.
Mental Wellbeing
- To be a primary point of contact for referrals where concerns have been identified over an individual’s mental health
- To manage a caseload of residents, listening to identify the needs and wishes of the individual, building trusting relationships and supporting them to develop a personalised care and support plan
- Support residents to attend appointments – including at points of crisis, making applications that may improve mental wellbeing where appropriate
- Monitor and review progress, amending the support plan where necessary and keeping accurate records
- Work as part of a team to help residents in your caseload to access therapeutic activities and actively contribute to the development of wellbeing activities
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
- Be flexible to the changing needs of the organisation and its service users.
- Abide by the organisations staff working policies and procedures.
- Promote the aims, purposes, mission and services delivered by the organisation.
- In addition to the duties set out in this job description the post holder may at times be required to undertake additional or other duties to meet the needs of the organisation.
