Full job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to be on the management team of a Personalised Day Provision (PDP) for 15 adults with a range of learning disabilities including mild to moderate learning disabilities, physical health needs as well as high functioning autism and Asperger’s.

Role Purpose

The role of the Deputy Manager (DM) is to provide leadership, development and direction, ensuring that the team provides the people we support within the service with the support they need to lead a good life and achieve the things that are important to them and their families.

There will be involvement in all areas of people management, setting expectations and monitoring performance, providing One to One meetings and Annual Reviews to ensure staff are demonstrating the skills and attitudes needed, maintaining their motivation and development by working alongside staff, role modelling good practice, coaching and mentoring.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

1) Build great relationships with the people we support and the people important in their lives (families, other staff, and external professionals). Know their skills, interests, qualities, strengths, challenges, ways of communicating and aspirations and ensure the individualized service they receive plays to their strengths; helps them tackle their challenges and achieve their goals.

2) Ensure people are supported in everyday tasks in a respectful way that meets their individual needs and preferences and enables them to do as much as possible themselves; to give them as much choice, control and involvement as possible. This would include assistance with communicating their needs, working out their money, getting in touch with friends, taking part in classes, taking them to their appointments, or linking with the community.

3) Key work with the Individual(s) to develop their support plan through the referral, assessment and review stages of person-centred planning. Understand their lifestyle choices, circles of support, what is important to and for them, and supporting them to have more choice and control in their life.

4) To develop and implement individual care plans; ensuring all plans and records relating to people we support are accurate and up to date using respectful language which allows them to see what progress is being made against goals; track areas of concern (e.g. health) and take action as agreed.

5) Support people to have their own voice heard wherever possible and where needed to speak up for them and their interests e.g. when out and about, with other professionals, within the team. Consistently look to find ways to ensure people have as much power and control over their lives.

6) Work in a consistent and positive way with other team members to ensure people get a great service from the whole team at any time. Ensure all organisation policies and specific agreed ways of working in the service are followed e.g. that specific support plans are being followed up, processes are being adhered to, that money is managed effectively, that health and safety practices are carried out.

7) Supervise, coach and train inexperienced and junior colleagues in person centred support practices and your specialist area of expertise, giving and acting on received feedback on what is going well and what is not going well.

8) Ensure effective day to day management of colleagues inclusive of activity delegation, quality assurance, performance management and recruitment and selection as appropriate to the role.

9) Develop and maintain links with professional bodies that support your area of expertise such as Autism, Intensive Interaction, community connecting, employment and training implementing changes in practice within the organisation.

10) To observe changes within the individual’s circumstances and respond accordingly as well as to undertake personal care tasks in a sensitive manner to meet the needs of the people we support.

11) To use information technology (including a computer) to undertake a range of administrative tasks and to follow procedural guidelines and complete appropriate documentation in required formats and to compile detailed written reports and be able to communicate clearly to people we support, employees and other professionals all the while understanding the nature of confidentiality.

12) Ensure the team can balance the needs for safety and risk taking, so that individuals supported do get the opportunity to experience new things in their lives and achieve their goals and plans.

13) Ensure that the staffing rota meets the needs of the people being supported and that as much as possible staff are well matched to specific activities and individuals.

14) Ensure that all the key quality indicators and safety measures are met, audits are carried out as required, resources are managed efficiently, and concerns are followed up swiftly.

15) Work in partnership with the Manager to ensure that the finances of the team and especially the finances of individuals we support are being effectively managed and the service complies with standards and requirements of the organisation and regulators.

16) Work in partnership with the Manager to produce, monitor and update operational documents, such as risk assessment, policies, service user files and any other related task.

The DM/TL will have training, development and coaching support to ensure they can feel confident delivering the quality of support we think people deserve and to support their professional development.

During the probation period the DM/TL will be provided with clear guidelines of expectations including completing induction and other mandatory training to maintain high standards of support in the context of Go For It’s Core Values.

Person Specification:

Experience of Key/Link Working with individuals and of enabling people with learning disability to take positive risks in the lives

Experience of mentoring/supervising/coaching others

Experience of building great relationships which promotes inclusion for people with learning disabilities

Person centred working & developing person centred support plans with individuals

Enabling people with learning disabilities to take positive risks in their lives.

Knowledge &/or Qualifications

Understand the challenges that are likely to be faced by many people with disabilities

Knowledge of safeguarding

A proactive learner – someone keen to learn new and better ways to do things.

Someone who learns from mistakes and is open to feedback.

Be receptive and demonstrate a commitment to relevant training.

Management qualification or relevant qualification in Social Care Diploma level 4 or 5,

CQC Registered Manager qualification will be an added advantage.

Ideally should already be in a leading position i.e senior, team-lead or deputy position at minimum however "strong" candidates with no experience in leading positions can be considered.

Technology Good IT skills – able to use Microsoft Office, the internet and emails, to undertake a range of administrative tasks.

Flexibility Willingness to work on a rota in the event of staff holidays / sickness etc., which will include: Work outside of normal hours if required

Team Work Ability to work within a team structure and understand the importance of team work in relation to achieving desired goals and outcomes.

Recognise strengths and weaknesses within the team/individuals and support colleagues when required

Health & Safety Able to take care of your health and safety and that of other persons affected by the delivery of support.

Multi-agency working – able to communicate, coordinate and work with other agencies, statutory or otherwise to deliver the best outcomes for the people we support.

Salary:

£12.31 to £13.50*

Hours: 24-37.5 Hours per Week (includes days, evenings and one Saturday. Earliest start is 8am (mostly from 9am) and latest finish is usually 6pm

Holiday:

28 days or at 12.07% of contracted hours.

Paid bank holiday

Paid Christmas break 5-8 days

Other:

Apart from other relevant qualifications, you will need to be a qualified driver with a clean license, have own car and business insurance, as there will be driving in the role.
