Title

Private Client Solicitor/Legal Executive and Legal Supervisor

Purpose

To provide appropriate levels of supervision to a team of paralegals, trainees and solicitors/legal executives within the Probate department in line with our firm’s supervision policy, taking into account the level of experience of the individuals under supervision and the type of work undertaken, whilst managing a small case load of technical and complex Private Client matters.

The role is perfect for an experienced Private Client Solicitor/Legal Executive who is passionate about developing and mentoring the next generation of Private Client lawyers by way of comprehensive supervision, whilst continuing to maintain client relationships with a small case load of advanced-level work.

Responsibilities

In line with the SRA guidance and our firm’s supervision policy, the Supervising Solicitor/Legal Executive will be responsible for supervising all client work of individuals under supervision. Supervision includes:

· Ensuring the file is being managed compliantly and in accordance with our regulatory obligations.

· Ensuring the advisor has provided correct legal advice that is tailored to the client’s circumstances, and such advice has been thoroughly documented.

· Checking all legal work completed by the advisor throughout the estate administration. This includes, but is not limited to, grant applications, IHT forms, estate accounts, post-death variations and trust deeds.

· Monitoring all client correspondence of anyone with 12 months or less experience in Probate.

· Providing weekly feedback to advisors under supervision, including a one-hour coaching session per week to discuss all files submitted for supervision, followed up with written feedback. The supervisor will also ensure that any actions set from previous meetings were completed and on time.

· Assessing advisors under supervision against our firm’s foundation advisor sign-off criteria.

· Providing ongoing supervisory support including ad hoc legal questions.

· Identifying training needs of advisors under supervision and feeding back to the individual’s line manager and our firm’s in-house Training Academy.

· Managing a caseload of up to 15 intermediate to advanced-level probate files throughout the client journey, providing exceptional levels of care and compassion to our clients. Intermediate to advanced level-files are likely to include taxable estates with technical elements such as dealing with business property, agricultural land and/or foreign assets.

Key Competencies and Experience

The key skills and knowledge needed for this role are as follows:

· An advanced level of knowledge of Private Client with at least 3 years PQE within this field.

· STEP qualified or working towards this is desirable but not essential

· An ability to coach and mentor others, whilst providing constructive feedback and holding said individuals accountable for delivery on agreed actions.

· Exceptional levels of client care with excellent communication skills

· A thorough understanding of our regulatory obligations in line with the SRA Code of Conduct for individuals and firms.

· Excellent organisational skills with good attention-to-detail and a methodical/conscientious approach.

Salary

£40,000 - £50,000 dependent on experience.
