Full job description

Overview
The New Inn Hotel is in the picturesque village of Clovelly which is a beautiful village on the coast in North Devon. We took over The New Inn Hotel at the end of last year and we have transformed The New Inn into a beautiful Arts and Crafts style hotel.

We are now saying goodbye to our chef and so we are seeking a talented and passionate Cook/Chef to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food preparation and cooking, with experience working in a busy kitchen environment. This role offers an exciting opportunity to showcase your culinary skills, to create your own homestyle food menu and to create exceptional dishes, and ensure the highest standards of food safety and presentation. The successful applicant will be responsible for preparing a variety of meals (not fancy but good old fashioned pub food that is yummy and well cooked, that keeps our locals coming back each week and visitors leaving our hotel happy and well fed), maintaining cleanliness, and supporting the overall operation of our kitchen.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook a diverse range of dishes according to recipes and quality standards
  • Ensure all food is prepared safely, adhering to food safety regulations and hygiene practices
  • Assist in menu planning and development, offering creative input where appropriate
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of workstations, equipment, and storage areas
  • Monitor stock levels and assist with inventory management to ensure ingredients are fresh and available
  • Serve meals efficiently while maintaining high standards of presentation and customer satisfaction
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth kitchen operations during busy periods
  • Follow health and safety guidelines at all times to prevent accidents or contamination

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in food preparation, cooking, or a similar role within a restaurant or hospitality environment is essential
  • Strong knowledge of food safety standards and hygiene practices
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work efficiently under pressure
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team
  • Previous experience in meal preparation, restaurant service, or catering is highly desirable
  • A recognised culinary qualification or relevant training is advantageous but not essential
  • Flexibility to work shifts including evenings, weekends, or public holidays as required

This position offers an excellent opportunity for passionate culinary professionals eager to develop their skills within a team environment. We are committed to supporting our staff’s growth whilst delivering outstanding dining experiences for our guests. There is a very real opportunity that the position will be made permanent and full time. Live in possibility to the right candidate.
