About the role

It’s knowing your horses are ready to play their role in Royal events.

The Royal Mews is responsible for all road transportation for The King and Members of the Royal Family, including caring for and training carriage horses and maintaining carriages and coaches, and associated harness and livery. By joining the team, you’ll care for some of the most photographed horses in the world.

Whilst the position is based at Windsor Castle, frequent travel to Buckingham Palace is expected, accommodation is provided at both locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • You’ll provide daily care for a set of horses, exercising and training them, preparing them for their role in ceremonial activities.
  • You’ll also maintain the stables, saddlery and harnesses, to ensure the Royal Mews is kept in the very best condition and that your horses are turned out to the highest standards.
  • You’ll also play a part in ceremonial events, assisting with riding and driving horses.

The standards you'll aim for will provide the biggest challenge, and the greatest reward.

About you

Essential Criteria

  • With a passion for horses and experience of working in a yard, you’re ready to take your career to the next level.
  • You’re a highly capable and confident rider, with a willingness to learn how to drive carriages and work with state harnesses.
  • You’ll also have a good understanding of all aspects of stable management.
  • You’re an outstanding team player, with a flexible and proactive approach to work.
  • Above all, you'll be committed to achieving high standards every day, making you a real asset to the Royal Mews team.

You will need to live on site or within a 3-mile radius and you’ll need a flexible approach and work extra hours during specific events, for which time in lieu will be granted.
