Student Advisor Role Purpose:

As an external service provider working in collaboration with universities and colleges, the Student Advisor will deliver tailored support services designed to connect prospective domestic students, especially from underrepresented communities, with higher education opportunities at UK universities & colleges.

This role is essential in driving awareness, engagement, and applications through outreach, advisory services, and collaborative event facilitation, aligning with the institution’s goals for widening participation and improving access to higher education.

With our unwavering commitment to students, the role will be tied to a set of student milestone outcome indicators, which will determine eligibility for market-related supplements.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Targeted Outreach & Marketing

  • Plan and deliver campaigns to engage hard-to-reach and underrepresented communities.
  • Promote the institution’s programmes and opportunities through local events, community channels, partnerships, and digital media.
  • Provide marketing feedback and strategic insights based on outreach results and community engagement.

2. Open Day Facilitation

  • Coordinate and promote institutions-hosted open days.
  • Drive and manage bookings from prospective applicants.
  • Support students in preparing for meaningful engagement at events.

3. Enquiry and Application Support

  • Offer personalised enquiry services to prospective students.
  • Provide impartial guidance on higher education options and pathways, including admission process, institution programmes, access routes, and progression opportunities.
  • Support initial access to the institution’s application platforms.

4. Enrolment Navigation

  • Assist successful applicants in completing enrolment documentation and onboarding steps.
  • Provide signed applicant declarations to confirm independent decision-making.

5. Post-Enrolment Advisory & Referral

  • Refer enrolled students to the institution’s academic, well-being, and support services as needed.
  • Share recurring themes or concerns from student feedback to the institution for improvement planning.

6. Community Intelligence & Reporting

  • Gather and report insights from outreach activities and applicant interactions.
  • Identify trends, barriers, and opportunities to improve outreach and participation strategies.

7. Other responsibilities

  • Increased attendance from underrepresented groups at institutional events.
  • Improved quality of applicant engagement and readiness.
  • Enhanced reporting and feedback to inform the institution’s outreach and marketing strategy.
  • Strengthened alignment with the institution’s access and participation goals.

Person Specification:

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in outreach, student engagement, or education advisory roles.
  • Strong understanding of the UK higher education landscape, including application and admissions processes.
  • Previous experience in a similar role.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to build trust and rapport with diverse communities and individuals.
  • Strong administrative and organisational abilities to do outreach and marketing activities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • An interest in working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and supporting an inclusive environment
  • Digital and marketing skills

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the institution’s programme offerings and strategic objectives.
  • Familiarity with student finance and academic policy guidance.
