Consultant Breast Radiologist

Location: South West Wales
Rate: From £1200 per day
Contract: Locum
Duration: 3 months initially, with the option to extend
Start Date: ASAP
Hours: 25.5 hours per week

About the Role

We are currently seeking an experienced Consultant Breast Radiologist to support a well-established NHS Breast Imaging Service in South West Wales. This is an excellent opportunity for a specialist with expertise in symptomatic breast imaging to join a multidisciplinary team on an initial 3-month locum contract, with the potential for extension.

The successful candidate will work across two Hospitals, providing high-quality breast imaging services and contributing to the wider breast care pathway.

Working Pattern

  • Tuesday – 7.5 hours
  • Wednesday – 7.5 hours
  • Thursday – 7.5 hours
  • Friday – 3-hour MDT meeting

Total: 25.5 hours per week

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently report mammographic studies.
  • Run symptomatic and Urgent Suspected Cancer (USC) breast clinics.
  • Perform breast ultrasound examinations.
  • Undertake ultrasound-guided breast intervention procedures.
  • Prepare imaging cases for multidisciplinary team (MDT) discussion.
  • Present cases at weekly MDT meetings.
  • Perform lesion localisation using Magseed and/or wire localisation prior to breast surgery.
  • Work collaboratively with breast surgeons, oncologists, pathologists and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality patient care.

Essential Requirements

  • GMC registration with a licence to practise.
  • FRCR (or equivalent specialist qualification).
  • Consultant-level experience in Breast Radiology, or equivalent specialist training.
  • Ability to independently report mammograms.
  • Experience leading symptomatic breast clinics.
  • Competence in breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided interventions.
  • Experience presenting cases within a breast MDT.
  • Competence in Magseed and/or wire localisation procedures.
  • Excellent communication and multidisciplinary working skills.
