Our client is a leading company, offering research services to the Drug Discovery sector. They collaborate with lead researchers and organisations to enhance the understanding of immunological, oncological, neurological and other disease areas. Based in Alderley Park, they are offering an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and hard-working individual to join their Biomarker team as a Scientist on a temporary contract basis due to a flurry of new projects, focused on metabolomics, lipidomics and proteomics studies utilising mass spectrometry and mass spec imaging techniques.

The Role

This is a role for Scientist who have significant experience in biomarker mass spec (MS) experience. As a Biomarker Scientist, you will be responsible for:

  • Designing and delivering end-to-end metabolomics, lipidomics and proteomics projects, focused on using mass spectrometry (MS), starting with biological sample preparation, through to data analysis.
  • Working on a high-tech mass-spec imaging Rapid Evaporative Ionization Mass Spectrometry (REIMS) platform, as well as time-of-flight analysers.
  • Working on collaborative projects with external and internal clients and colleagues.
  • Interpretation and presentation of mass spec biomarker project data.
  • Handling biological samples (cells, tissues etc).
  • Working independently and collaboratively as part of a wider drug discovery team.

Skills and Experience Needed:

Suitable applicants will have:

  • A PhD with a focus in biological mass spectrometry (not chemical analysis!), MSc or BSc backgrounds with significant biological mass spectrometry / biomarker experience would also be welcomed (essential – fresh PhD graduate is fine)
  • Several years of experience in working with biological mass-spectrometry studies across metabolomics, lipidomics or proteomics (LC-MS, LC-MS/MS etc), including experimental design, running and data analysis (essential)
  • Experience in handling biological samples, including a range of tissues and cell types (essential)
  • Prior experience in Mass-spec imaging (MALDI, DESI, REIMS etc) (strongly desired)
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills. (essential)
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously (essential)
  • Must have long-term right to work in the UK without need for visa sponsorship (essential)
