Senior Locum Occupational Therapist (Adult Social Care)

Location: Barry, South Wales
Pay Rate: Up to £35.88 per hour
Working Pattern: Hybrid – approximately 2 days office-based / 3 days working from home

About the Role

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Occupational Therapist to join an Adult Services Occupational Therapy and Specialist Assessment Team based in Barry, South Wales.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled Occupational Therapist to work with adults with physical disabilities, sensory impairments and/or learning disabilities, supporting people to maximise their independence and remain safely within their own homes wherever possible.

You will manage a varied caseload, including clients with complex needs, and work closely with social care, NHS colleagues, GPs and other partner agencies.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out comprehensive occupational therapy assessments, interventions and evaluations for adults, particularly those with complex needs.
• Assess for equipment, aids to independence and minor and major adaptations.
• Undertake manual handling assessments and make appropriate recommendations.
• Monitor and review the effectiveness and impact of equipment and adaptations.
• Promote independence, social inclusion and safe care.
• Support people to remain living at home for as long as possible and reduce reliance on formal care packages.
• Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment alongside social workers, NHS professionals and other agencies.
• Liaise effectively with primary healthcare teams, GPs and voluntary organisations where appropriate.
• Maintain accurate, timely and contemporaneous case records and ensure all relevant computer-based systems are updated.
• Provide advice and guidance to colleagues and social care professionals.
• Support and supervise junior staff, Occupational Therapy Assistants and students as required.
• Contribute to team meetings, service development and continuous improvement.
• Attend regular supervision and contribute to the development of Occupational Therapy services across Barry and South Wales.
• Ensure all work complies with relevant policies, procedures, legislation, financial regulations and health and safety requirements.

About You

We are looking for a confident and experienced Occupational Therapist who can manage a complex caseload and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

You should have:

• A recognised qualification in Occupational Therapy.
• Current HCPC registration.
• Significant experience working as an Occupational Therapist, ideally within adult social care or community services.
• Experience assessing adults with complex physical, sensory or learning disabilities.
• Experience with equipment, adaptations and manual handling assessments.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a wider team.
• Good organisational and caseload management skills.
• Experience supporting junior staff, students or therapy assistants would be advantageous.
• A strong commitment to promoting independence and person-centred care.
