Residential Support Worker – Work in Guernsey
Location: Guernsey (Temporary Relocation Opportunity)
Pay Rate: £23 per hour Enhanced rates for Nights/weekends/sleep ins
Contract Type: 12 weeks
IR35 Status: Outside IR35
Accommodation: Available from approximately £120–£160 per week (subject to availability)
Travel: Initial and return travel costs covered

Sanctuary Personnel is seeking dedicated Residential Support Workers to join a children's residential service in Guernsey.

This is an excellent opportunity for experienced support workers looking for a rewarding role while enjoying the unique lifestyle and scenery that island living offers. The position involves temporarily relocating to Guernsey, with accommodation support and travel expenses provided.

Working within a residential setting, you will help create a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment for children and young people up to the age of 18. You will play a key role in supporting their emotional wellbeing, personal development, education, and independence while ensuring their individual needs are met with dignity, respect, and compassion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality care and support to children and young people within a residential home setting.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with young people and support their emotional, social, and behavioural development.
  • Promote independence and life skills through daily routines and structured support.
  • Assist young people to attend appointments, education placements, activities, and other commitments.
  • Support children and young people to achieve positive outcomes in their health, wellbeing, and personal development.
  • Work collaboratively with families, social workers, education professionals, and other agencies.
  • Maintain accurate and professional records in line with safeguarding and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in care planning, reviews, and multi-disciplinary meetings.
  • Ensure the home environment remains safe, welcoming, and well maintained.
  • Follow safeguarding procedures and respond appropriately to any concerns regarding child welfare.

Requirements

  • NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (or willingness to work towards this qualification).
  • Previous experience supporting children, young people, or vulnerable individuals.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and resilient in challenging situations.
  • A child-centred approach with a genuine passion for improving outcomes for young people.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good literacy, numeracy, and record-keeping skills.
  • Full UK Driving Licence (Category B).
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including sleep-in duties.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience within children's residential services.
  • Knowledge of child development, safeguarding, attachment theory, and trauma-informed practice.
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by vulnerable children and young people.
