Chartered Structural Engineer

Residential Design, Surveys & Team Leadership

ADS Structural Limited is an established and growing structural engineering consultancy providing practical, commercially focused engineering solutions across the residential, commercial and industrial sectors.

Due to continued growth and increasing demand for our services, we are seeking a recently Chartered Structural Engineer (MIStructE or MICE) to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious engineer who enjoys working within the residential market and is looking to take on a leadership role within a dynamic and expanding practice.

The successful candidate will be involved in a varied workload encompassing structural surveys, defect investigations, report preparation, and the design of structural elements for both new-build and existing residential properties. They will also play a key role in mentoring and managing junior technical staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Undertake structural inspections, surveys and assessments of residential properties.
• Investigate structural defects and provide practical remediation recommendations.
• Prepare clear, concise and technically robust structural reports for clients, lenders, solicitors and contractors.
• Design structural elements associated with:
• Residential extensions
• Loft conversions
• Internal alterations
• New-build housing developments
• Retaining walls and foundations
• Steel, timber, masonry and reinforced concrete structures
• Liaise directly with homeowners, architects, developers, contractors and building control bodies.
• Manage a small team of graduate engineers and apprentices.
• Review and check calculations, drawings and reports prior to issue to clients.
• Ensure technical quality and compliance with current standards and regulations.
• Assist in developing technical procedures and supporting the ongoing growth of the business.

Candidate Requirements

Essential

• Chartered Engineer (MIStructE or MICE), recently or newly Chartered.
• Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Strong interest in residential structural engineering.
• Experience undertaking structural surveys and preparing technical reports.
• Sound understanding of UK design standards and Building Regulations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

• Experience of managing or mentoring junior engineers.
• Familiarity with common structural design software.
• Experience in steel, timber, masonry and reinforced concrete design.
• Knowledge of subsidence investigations and remedial works.
• Experience working directly with private residential clients.
