Contracts Manager (Residential Construction)

Newly created role due to planned growth and expansion.

The company:

Gordon Forsyth Building Services [GFBS] are a long established and reputable building contractor with workshop and manufacturing facility in Edinburgh who deliver interesting and varied projects in and around the city. The quality of the projects that we delivery along with the customer focused service that we provide is the foundation of our reputation.

Our projects are generally prime residential and range from full house renovations to large extensions, swimming pools, basements, roof terraces and loft conversions, occasional new build properties and high-end manufacture. Project values can range from £10k to £2M. The work we undertake is challenging and demanding whilst at the same time highly rewarding.

We are looking for:

We are actively seeking to appoint a proactive, outgoing, and highly motivated Contracts Manager specialising in residential construction projects with a minimum of 10 years’ experience within the construction industry.

The role will include:

As Contracts Manager you will be responsible for delivering projects from pre-construction to completion within an agreed timeframe and to the highest possible standard, including but not limited to the following:

  • Manage multiple projects of varying sizes including all operational aspects of the project lifecycle
  • Develop and implement project strategies with a focus on safety, quality and profitable delivery
  • Produce and manage construction programmes
  • Manage direct workforce, sub-contractors and supply chain
  • Lead and motivate project teams in all aspects of onsite delivery
  • Manage project handover ensuring snag free completion
  • Health and safety management, including preparation of Construction Phase Plans, Risk Assessments and Method Statements
  • Ensuring health and safety compliance is maintained and company policies and procedures are adhered
  • Identify and manage potential risks and opportunities
  • Change control management
  • Assist develop policies and procedures
  • Prepare progress reports and attend meetings
  • Work between our Edinburgh office and sites

Qualifications and skills:

  • Excellent communication and project management skills
  • Proven project / contracts management experience
  • Confident and articulate
  • Good people management skills
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • High level of IT literacy - especially with MS Word, Outlook, Excel and ideally Project
  • Must be able to lead from the front and develop meaningful and sustainable relationships with clients and consultants
  • Must have excellent technical knowledge of modern construction techniques and methodology in conjunction with strong commercial acumen
  • Site Management Safety Training (SMSTS) or equivalent

The person:

Ideally you will come from a management background hold a construction qualification such as a degree or HND in a construction related discipline such as Construction Management, Quantity or Building Surveying (preferred but not essential).

Must be local to Edinburgh or willing to relocate and must have a full UK driving license with the use of a car for business purposes.

The package:

  • Basic salary £45,000 to £55,000 per annum (depending on experience)
