Neil McGregor Property Services Ltd is looking for an experienced Site Supervisor to join our team, working across Newcastle upon Tyne and the wider North East.

We are looking for someone with in-depth practical knowledge of domestic construction, particularly extensions, loft conversions, structural alterations and major property refurbishments.

A joinery background would be highly advantageous, particularly someone who has progressed from working as a Building/Site Joiner into supervising and managing domestic building projects.

This is a hands-on site supervision role. We need someone who understands how buildings actually go together, can read and interpret construction information, manage trades on site and maintain high standards of workmanship and health & safety.

The Role

You will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of domestic building and refurbishment projects, working closely with our Contracts Managers to ensure projects are being delivered safely, correctly and to the required standard.

Typical responsibilities will include:

• Day-to-day supervision of extensions, loft conversions and refurbishment projects
• Coordinating our own trades, operatives and subcontractors on site
• Reading and interpreting architectural drawings and construction plans
• Reading and understanding structural engineer's drawings and calculations
• Ensuring works are constructed in accordance with drawings and specifications
• Understanding the correct sequencing of building works and planning ahead
• Identifying potential construction issues before they cause delays
• Monitoring quality and workmanship throughout the project
• Checking dimensions, levels, setting out and key construction details
• Liaising with the Contracts Manager regarding progress, labour and upcoming requirements
• Providing regular and accurate site progress updates
• Reporting delays, variations, problems and additional works promptly
• Monitoring materials and identifying requirements in advance
• Ensuring the site remains organised, tidy and professional
• Maintaining a safe working environment at all times
• Ensuring site-specific RAMS and company health & safety procedures are followed
• Monitoring operatives and subcontractors to ensure safe working practices
• Liaising professionally with customers while works are taking place in their homes
• Assisting with snagging and ensuring works are completed to a high standard

The Person We're Looking For

This position requires someone with genuine practical construction knowledge.

You must have significant experience working within domestic building and refurbishment, with a strong understanding of the complete construction process involved in extensions and loft conversions.

We are particularly interested in someone who originally came through a joinery/building trade background and has since progressed into site supervision.

You should understand the different trades and stages involved in a project and be able to recognise when work is not being carried out correctly.

You must be confident reading plans and structural information rather than relying on others to interpret this for you.

You will need to be:

• Highly experienced in domestic extensions and loft conversions
• Experienced in major domestic refurbishment projects
• Ideally from a Joinery/Site Joinery background
• Experienced in supervising trades and subcontractors
• Confident reading architectural and construction drawings
• Able to understand structural drawings and structural calculations
• Knowledgeable about building regulations and good construction practice
• Strong on health & safety and maintaining safe working environments
• Able to plan ahead and coordinate different trades
• Confident identifying and resolving practical site issues
• Quality focused with excellent attention to detail
• Organised and capable of managing multiple priorities
• Able to communicate clearly with Contracts Managers, trades and customers
• Professional, reliable and accountable

Essential Requirements

• Significant experience within domestic construction
• Proven experience with extensions and loft conversions
• Previous supervisory/site management experience
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings
• Ability to understand structural engineer's drawings and calculations
• Strong knowledge of construction sequencing and building practices
• Good understanding of site health & safety requirements
• Full UK driving licence

A trade background, particularly Joinery, would be highly desirable.

Pay: From £40,000.00 per year
