Biology Teacher – Secondary school


Location:
Barnet, London
Salary: £40,372–£59,864 per annum – M1 to UPS3
Contract: Full-time, long-term temporary
Start Date: 8 September 2026


Teach Now is working with a secondary school in Barnet to appoint an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Biology Teacher for a full-time, long-term position beginning in September 2026.


The successful candidate will be a subject specialist who can combine strong academic expectations with engaging explanations, purposeful practical work and a genuine enthusiasm for science.


Your Role


You will be responsible for:


  • Delivering Biology and general science across KS3 and KS4
  • Teaching GCSE Biology to combined and/or triple-science pupils
  • Teaching KS5 Biology where your experience is suitable
  • Planning lessons that develop secure subject knowledge and scientific thinking
  • Using practical investigations to deepen pupils’ understanding
  • Assessing progress and identifying gaps in knowledge
  • Preparing examination classes effectively
  • Supporting pupils who need additional intervention
  • Challenging high-attaining pupils and encouraging STEM progression
  • Maintaining a positive and purposeful learning environment
  • Contributing to department planning, meetings and curriculum development

The Successful Candidate


You will ideally have:


  • QTS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification
  • A Biology or related life-sciences degree
  • Recent secondary-school teaching experience
  • Strong understanding of GCSE Biology specifications
  • Excellent curriculum and subject knowledge
  • Confident classroom and behaviour management
  • An ability to explain complex scientific ideas clearly
  • High expectations for pupils of all starting points
  • The right to work in the UK
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply
  • Two satisfactory professional references


Experience teaching A-level Biology would be an advantage and could provide opportunities to work with sixth-form pupils.
