Jazz Guitar Teacher | London Guitar Institute

Help adult guitarists turn their love of jazz into music they can play.

For some students, the ambition is to play their first jazz standard. For others, it is to understand harmony, accompany confidently or improvise with freedom. As their teacher, you will help make those ambitions achievable.

Founded in 2011 and located in the heart of the City of London, London Guitar Institute specialises in guitar and bass guitar tuition for adult enthusiasts. We are seeking an experienced jazz guitar teacher who combines excellent musicianship with a clear, patient and inspiring approach to teaching.

The role

You will teach adults from absolute beginners to advanced guitarists, adapting each lesson to their musical interests, experience and goals.

Our students play for pleasure. Your role is to help them make meaningful progress through enjoyable, well-structured lessons that give them both practical skills and the confidence to use them.

Your teaching will cover technique, rhythm, jazz repertoire, chord voicings, harmony, improvisation and musical expression. You should be comfortable making complex concepts accessible and helping students apply what they learn to real music.

Candidate requirements

• Grade 8 or equivalent playing ability, with strong practical knowledge of jazz guitar.
• At least three years of teaching experience.
• The ability to teach all levels, from absolute beginners to advanced players at Grade 8 and beyond.
• A strong understanding of adult learners and a flexible approach to different personalities, abilities and ambitions.
• Confidence teaching jazz harmony, chord construction, comping, phrasing and improvisation.
• A broad knowledge of jazz standards and styles.
• The ability to develop students’ listening skills, timing and musical independence.
• A patient, encouraging manner and a genuine interest in helping adults who play for pleasure.
